Hi friends, I’ve just finished putting together my top ten songs of 2015. This is a list of my personal favourite songs from last year, and as such will probably be quite different from any of the publicly voted top x lists. I’ve included songs that, for whatever reason, resonated with me and/or have left a lasting impression over the year.
So venture past the break to see, in no particular order, my top ten of 2015.
Exiark – Frostfire (feat. Itchigotchi)
Anyone who been watching my channel over this past year would know I have a soft spot for Itchi’s vocals. So when she teamed up with Exiark to bring us something that somehow manages to be both gritty and ethereal I was instantly in love with this track.
EnsionD – Better Together
Part mash up, part remix, EnsionD takes two already great songs from the horse show and brings us something greater than the sum of its parts. This remix brings something new to the table without losing any of the charm of the originals.
HACKD vs RKIT – DVNK HORSE
How can you not love a song whose main melody is being carried by a maniacally laughing pony? This song is the one that lured me to the proverbial rabbit hole and damn near pushed me down it.
DecodingTheCodes & Silver Note – Shine
This one was an incredibly late entry to 2015’s music pool, coming out on new year’s eve, but I just had to included it. Silver Note produces great music and is an amazing vocalist, and has realised DecodingTheCodes’ vision perfectly to create this wonderful, uplifting song.
idkQuicksilver – Pirate Mares
My introduction to modern ska was The Aquabats (look them up if you haven’t heard them before, you won’t be disappointed) and as such, they will always hold a special place in my heart. I was blown away when I heard this song; if The Aquabats were bronies, this is the song they would have made.
Make This Castle A Home (ᴅᴀɪᴋᴜ ɪɴᴅᴜsᴛʀɪᴇs ʀᴇᴍɪx)
Make This Castle A Home: Most Underrated Show Song of 2015. I loved that song so much, I released two covers of it. Amazing song. Then this remix appeared. And it completely deconstructed the original and built something wonderful with the ruins.
Sonic Rainboom feat. Faux Synder – The Constant
This song. There’s just something about this song… It’s bouncy, it’s fun, and it always leaves my with a warm feeling somewhere around the heart region.
HACKD vs. Dynamite Grizzly – Celestia Gets a Snail Trail On Her Banana Hammock
It was an absolutely blast to be a part of Pinkamena Party 3.5 last year, and I couldn’t make a top ten without including something from No Morality. Snail Trail has been masterfully crafted by HACKD and Grizz, but you can almost hear how firmly their tongues were planted in their cheeks while making this.
Rainbow Dash – I’ll Fly
Yep. The original. Season five has had some of the best music yet, with songs like The Pony I Want To Be, The Magic Inside and Friends Are Always There For You, but this one takes the cake. Ashleigh Ball has a stunning singing voice and it was great to hear her let loose on a rather Hey Ocean!esque track.
Jeff Burgess – Tiny Pony Chairs
I deliberated long and hard about whether to include this one. Is a song about the life of someone who sings about ponies a ‘pony song’? (inb4 Jeff sends me a message to tell me how wrongly I interpreted the lyrics) I still haven’t decided, but this song was too good not to include.
