Ponysphere – Desperate Housewife (feat. Secret Metal) | Heavy Metal

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 17 December 2016.

Man, some of these metal artists like to push the envelope a little with what they write their songs about, but if you’re okay with highly suggestive lyricism, then the production on show here is highly worth listening to. Ponysphere and Secret Metal are two of the best metal musicians in the fandom, and showcase this hear with some awesome heavy guitar riffs and aggressive vocals, all mixed pretty cleanly.

eksoka – Raincity | Progressive House

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 17 December 2016.

A relatively unheralded musician up to this point, eksoka has nevertheless been around for a year or so, and previously appeared in the Japan Pony Party compilation series. Generally focusing on chill, deep and progressive pieces, this is shown off wonderfully here with a track that steadily evolves in complexity over time. A joy to listen to as it evolves, the piece reaches its most enjoyable when the wonderfully created vocal chops come through, melding wonderfully with the rest of the track. If you’re a fan of the progressive, make sure to check it out!

bank pain – Sunny’s Theme VIP | Drum & Bass

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 16 December 2016.

bank pain has been featured before as part of a Cider Party release, but now he’s finally started utilising his own YouTube channel, his releases having previously only resided on Soundcloud. This track showcases his ability to create enthralling drum & bass punctuated by neuro sound design and a lot of awesome little extra bits and pieces. With a somewhat mellow and chilled out feel to it, yet maintaining a subtle sense of urgency, this piece is well worth checking out!

Ponytronic – Resumption (Protocat Remix) | Drum & Bass

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 16 December 2016.

Part of Ponytronic’s imminent Impetuous Views Remix/Orchestral Suite album, this remix of his track Resumption from Protocat is a pretty welcome addition. Featuring some solid d&b drums, a nice wobbling bass and, most welcome, some great integration of vocal chops that fit snugly into the mix, this is a pretty neat reinterpretation of what was initially, for the most part, a much more chillout-oriented tune.

A Symphony Of Two & CainbowRrash – A Place That Feels Like Home | Orchestral

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 15 December 2016.

Already another orchestral collaboration from one half of A Symphony Of Two and CainbowRrash, this is by no means a bad thing. Evidently these two work well together, which is shown by this lovely piece which has a distinctly springtime feel to it. Carried heavily by piano, and punctuated by some light bells, it has some great uplifting strings also.

iblank2apples – Horse D’œuvres | Electro House

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 14 December 2016.

A new release from iblank2apples is something I’m more than happy to see! Formerly GumsOfGabby, he returned to the pony music scene under this alias last year with some fantastic stuff, most notably his song I’ve Been Dreaming Of Sunshine and Celery Stalks’ and a collaborating with DJT, ‘Ponez’, but this is his first release since October 2015 on his channel. It’s definitely worth the wait though, with some heavy electro synths playing some neat chords which makes you want to get up and groove.

Superturtle – Light Of Your Cutie Mark (covering Daniel Ingram) | Indie Rock

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 14 December 2016.

This is another new track released from the ‘A Little Bit For Charity’ project, and it’s always awesome to hear the unique ways that the professional indie artists enlisted by the project manage to turn the show songs into a style of their own. This time around a group called Superturtle have given their take on the song Light Of Your Cutie Mark. Make sure to check it out below if indie style rock beats are your thing! This one definitely has a bit more of an old school vibe to it.

Having made a few tracks in different styles, Sonic Rainboom returns to what he is arguably one of the best in the fandom at now – long form trance music, effortlessly and wonderfully evolving over a relatively sizeable period of time. This one is a remix of the late SoaringFlight’s piece Dashin’ Dreams, punctuated by lovely arpeggiated synths and a really nice lead sound. syzygy. – Ain’t Scared | Riddim Dubstep

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 13 December 2016.

Riddim-style dubstep isn’t really something we hear all that often in the fandom, so it’s cool to hear some new stuff in that style from syzygy., returning for his second feature. Defined as being more of a bouncy and wonky style of dubstep, this piece has some pretty neat oscillating sounds, and some classic arp-oriented builds as well as a pretty heavy snare that comes through really nicely.

Sky Runner – Heartstrings (Filly in the Box Remix) | Neurofunk

NB: This was originally posted on Equesria Daily on December 12 2016.

Filly in the Box is back with a new remix of Sky Runner’s recent drum & bass track Heartstrings, after Sky Runner recently remixed one of FITB’s tunes. Starting off with a cool tape effect on the original before coming into some new stuff, Filly has dialed up the sound design by taking the original and adding his own signature neuro spin. I especially like those wobbly synths used in the second drop. Make sure to check it out!
