Although it’s a song you may not recognize by name, this track stands as a pillar for modern electronic music, and this faithful ponification that was brought to the table by Sapphire Systrine with Butter Bolt VA certainly lives up to its legacy. The duo went as far as to recreate the vocal line used in the original 1999 track, a move that’s nothing short of jaw-dropping. As Sapphire clarifies in the description: “…the voice line is from Stretch – Why Did You Do It (12″ Version)” which is also the very first thing this tribute hit us with. Butter Bolt VA delivers a perfect rendition of Rainbow Dash’s cocky yet unmistakably raspy voice, which is sampled and rearranged with immaculate precision to mirror the original song as closely as possible.
Everything in this track radiates with a true respect and appreciation for the source material, while introducing clever and well placed twists that both enrich and elevate the listening experience. The final result is incredibly bouncy and irresistibly danceable, with just the right mix of elements to make you drop everything and dance alongside Rainbow Dash. Speaking of which, Dashie’s animation was handled by Sapphire using a model provided by the ever-talentful Valiant Studios, once again showcasing mastery over the craft. Couldn’t recommend it enough. Go give it a listen!
