Jeff Burgess recently released an entire live album, and our very own HACKD wrote up a piece about it. Check it out after the break!

Dead in Denver is a thrilling live album of Jeff Burgess and the Bad Mares’ performance at Running of the Leaves Con 2015. The show served as the closing act to Friday night’s concert, following an awesome metal performance from Cyril the Wolf. The recording took place in a small, intimate venue where Jeff did a fantastic job of capitalizing on the immediate connection to the crowd by frequently performing offstage amidst the audience. The album starts off strong with Jeff’s signature cover of Grifinilla’s “Hard Knocks”, and the energy only continues throughout the live renditions of some of the best tracks off of Jeff’s Horse Friend album which was released earlier in 2015. But although you would be hard pressed to find a concert that can rival a Bad Mares show, what really makes this live album stand out is the fourth track, “Summer’s End Blues”. Following a very upbeat delivery of “Leave This World Behind”, the energy changes to a powerful account of some of the chilling events of the community which was- as claimed by Jeff at the end of the track- the first and last performance of the song. The album closes with some acoustic tracks, the first being a cover of ATW’s track “You’ll Be Fine” primarily sung by Cassetteset, which was the last song of Friday night. The last three were performed in a separate acoustic show.

All in all, the album captures an amazingly anguished and raw delivery of some of Jeff’s best work. If you would like to support Jeff you can download the album for yourself from his bandcamp page. All proceeds are going towards helping getting Jeff’s drummer a flight to their next con.
