Seemingly out of nowhere, Segments of Life, the Trancecore artist from Kazhakstan, released an entire album yesterday! Not all the tracks from it are pony related, so we’ll just focus on those that are. Catch the full post after the break!
NB: All the tracks from the album can also be found on Segments of Life’s YouTube channel!
The first two tracks, Searching and Memories, follow Segements of Life’s usual Trancecore that’s he’s made himself known for. Melodic trancey synths and hard hitting djenty guitars keeps these tracks in tune with his signature style.
The third one takes a different turn though. One Wonder, an adaptation/remix of Assertive Fluttershy’s Boooring from a few years ago, uses custom vocal splicing and is a sort of midtempo synthpop track with Segments’ own wubs in the first drop of the song, with guitars joining the mix again later on.
Ethereal isn’t pony related, but is followed by a cover of sorts of Foozogz’s remix of Hearts Strong as Horses. Similar to One Wonder, it’s a bit different from SoL’s usual music but features guitars again later on. Introduction serves as a prelude to the central body of the album, where tracks 7 through 10 aren’t pony related, so again we’ll skip those.
Exitus is another song in Segment of Life’s classic Trancecore style, but its successor follows a different path. Extreme Measures, a song about Pinkamena, has a dark dubstep vibe to it to start with, complete with wubs that sound reminiscent of 2011/12 dubstep.
2 pony tracks now remain on the album. Mirror is another one of Segments’ typical tracks, but the final pony track of the album is, essentially, a remix of Make A Wish, from the episode Pinkie Pride. This has more of an electronic hardcore feel to it than the usual Trancecore we see in SoL’s songs.
Overall, Segments of Life tends to stick to what they do best at in this album – Trancecore. If you really like that style of music then it’s fine for you. However, it can feel a bit repetitive genre-wise. There is some variation throughout the album, including some big room house and a track with synthwave influence in the non-pony songs. I did enjoy all these tracks, but it would have been nice to see a bit more variation in the way the guitars and drums are handled. 3 stars out of 5 for me.
