PON3 – Divine EP | Electronic

PON3 recently released a new EP, we’re a little behind on this one but better late than never eh? This EP contains a collection of previously unreleased/unfinished works from 2014-15, and leans towards more experimental styles of music. Catch the full writeup after the break!

NB: The SoundCloud and YouTube playlists have these songs in different orders. I’m going by Soundcloud for this review.

The album starts off with a rather experimental track, Define. Complex timing make it difficult to follow the beat, but I often like complex time signatures in music. Top notch sound design plays its part too, as per usual with PON3’s tracks.

Shots Fired brings the tempo back up to drumstep territory with punchy drums and deep growling bass. Be sure to enjoy this on monitors or a pair of headphones with good bass response.

Getting back into something a bit different, 128bpm dubstep, Sincerely Yours reminds me of his track Redacted, from the Opalescence album. I’m hearing a lot more of this sort of dubstep recently, and I have to say I’m loving it. 👌👌👌

With a name such as Kawaii, you might expect track 4 to be future bass. Of couse not, this is PON3. Instead we get a dark dubsteppy song littered with intense growls and carefully manipulated voice samples.

Finishing off the EP, a bonus track! Count Me In is an electro track seemingly with some French house influence. An interesting combination, but it certainly pays off nonetheless.

Overall this EP shows the more experimental side of PON3’s production ability. That may be a dividing point for some, but it certainly makes this EP worth it if you like something a little more unusual, or appreciate some original sound design. Here’s to more music from PON3 in the coming months!
