We’re posting two EPs this evening: the first of these is from Einarx, who managed to get some time off from their military duties to make a song for Awakening and include it as part of an EP! Catch the full writeup after the break…
Einarx’s contribution to Awakening starts off the EP. Descended is a fantastic melodic dubstep song that makes subtle and clever use of vocal splicing. Though It still features those signature growls and heavy bass sounds that Einarx is known for, and is a fantastic opener to this EP.
Next up is the first of many remixes on this EP. Here, Einarx gives his own spin on iblank2apples’ (criminally under-viewed) past P@D contribution, Electro Horse. Following the interesting chord progression of the original, it’s one of those unusual 128bpm dubstep tracks that I wish we could see more of!
Now for a few show song remixes! We start off with a remix of The Pony I Want To Be. The majority of the song serves as a buildup to a single drop, and my only complaint is that it feels too short; I WANT MORE!
Time for 4 chord progressions, with Einarx’s take on The Magic Inside. While it showcases some of the classic Einarx growls and wubs, I can’t help but feel this could have been something more than what it turned out to be.
Things switch up a bit though with a remix of The Spectacle, as it take a noticeably faster tempo than the previous songs. Much more energetic buildups and a dnb beat in the second drop give this song a much more unique feel than the previous 2 tracks.
The next track isn’t pony, but is instead a remix of fellow South Korean producer Orange Wolke’s Asteroid B612. Full of appropriate spacey sounds in the quieter parts, this is another classically Einarx song.
A slightly older piece takes the place of track #7 – you may remember Blastershy from Ponies At Dawn: Starlit Flames. More vocal splicing and wubs fill this fast-paced Fluttershy song, and it hold up nicely among the newer songs on this EP.
Finishing off the album, another non-pony song. Einarx’s remix of The Answer by The Queenstons starts off with a almost haunting piano, but quickly brings in drums for a buildup. To be honest, the drop feels rather discordant, and again, I feel like this could have been improved before being released.
Overall, this EP is enjoyable to listen to, and for those of you who already like Einarx’s music, chances are that you’ll enjoy this EP too. However, I felt that there were some underlying technical issues – the volume levels seemed to change from track to track and some songs felt over-compressed. However, given that this EP has been put together whilst Einarx has been away on military duty, it delivers a lot more than I would have expected.
