PREY – Secrets Of The Forest EP | Trap

Our second EP post comes from PREY, who recently made a return to the pony music scene. Secrets Of The Forest showcases 3 trap songs from PREY – get the full writeup after the break!

NB: This YouTube playlist plays the songs in reverse order.

The EP starts off as it means to go on, with a brass stabs and an oriental-sounding string instrument. Blue Leaves takes us back to season 1 and the introduction of Zecora, a time when the Everfree Forest was still feared by everyone. Classic trap kicks, basses and hi hats fill this song, and it switches up the tempo towards the end, almost to match the following track.

Daring Do and the Gold Temple continues the sounds of brass stabs, plucked strings and the classic trap elements, minus the voice samples in the previous track. A relatively short piece, to me this sounds more like a continuation of Blue Leaves than a new track…still enjoyable though.

Discord’s Game of Chaos, however, takes a slightly different direction. This starts off with a haunting piano melody and drums and bass that sound reminiscent of late 00s dubstep – now that’s something I haven’t heard in a while! Featuring discord voice samples to build up to the drop and glass percussion to accentuate the beat, this is probably my favourite of the songs on this EP.

Secrets Of The Forest is a solid comeback EP from PREY, it’s good to see some trap music on the scene, I feel like there’s not as much as there used to be. It would have been nice to see a bit more of a difference between Blue Leaves and Daring Do and the Gold Temple, but otherwise I really enjoyed this EP.

Secrets Of The Forest is available to download from Bandcamp for free.
