Dynamite Grizzly – The Horses NEED Techno EP | Electronic

Dynamite Grizzly, one of the most active yet underground musicians in the fandom, and one of two majorly known music bears, is back with a full 6-track EP of horse-based techno music. This time the horses don’t just want techno, they NEED IT. Check out a full writeup of this EP after the break.

First up the the funky FEELIN’ HAUTE that emerged at the same time as the other sweep remixes. But this takes a different approach to that concept, using the episode voice samples minimally with some fantastically funky guitar riffs and horn samples thrown into the mix.

We’ve also seen the second track, flamma de castu, before too. A collab with fellow ursine musician fractilx, this track takes a more rock-based approach with a heavy driving guitar riff running throughout the track. Funny that this was inspired by the episode Gauntlet of Fire, because I can imagine playing a Spyro game to this!

Your friends like rock. My friends like trance(?). Pinkie likes house. Boulder likes perfect techno. If what Maud says is true, Music For Rocks must be Boulder’s jam. More funky guitars and classic synth sounds for your listening pleasure.

The Cutie Mark Crusaders Go Crusading is a background music piece pretty well known amongst the fandom, and definitely has one of the catchiest melodies too. Grizzly put her own spin on it a while back and also recently did this rework of it that’s more energetic than her original, and is just as funky as the original was smooth and relaxing.

Deviating slightly from the style of the tracks so far, this rework of flamma de castu takes a mroe hardstyle-like approach. It even features a harpsichord, how can you say no to a harsichord?

Something slightly different to end the EP – a remix of Luna’s Future, back in the classic techno style of the rest of this EP. It offers a very different take on the song compared to the rest of the remixes we’ve seen of this.

Granted, techno isn’t as widespread nowadays as it used to be, in the general sense rather than just within the fandom. But it’s great to see that even in a fandom that for the most part sticks to relatively mainstream stuff, there’s still plenty of talented musicians dedicated to cater to the underground scene and to the tastes of those who frequent it.
