Today we have a new EP from PVNK to share with you! No, we’re not talking about the pop star, it’s Phoxi’s alternate alias for harder and more experimental music. A range of electronic styles lie across this EP, each one more hard-hitting and unique than the last, so let’s get right into it! Full writeup after the break.

Starting off the EP is Kill The Sun, taking the classic theme of Nightmare Moon and putting a midtempo spin on it. The wet, heavy modulated basses in the first drop and the almost constant distant screaming sound only add the the already dark nature of this song.

Straight into Salt Licker and we already have some vocal splicing, and bass stabs line the build up to the drop of this experimental drum & bass song. The sound design in this song really stands out from any other kind of dnb I’m used to. Then again, exactly that can be said about many of Phoxi & PVNK’s tracks!

Suddenly, BITCRUSHED SOUNDS start off Ambush, the third track on this EP. As the sounds clear up, the beat forms and the vocals come in and leads this song into a absolute beast of a drop. Hard hitting sounds and a tempo change complete this, marking my favourite choice from this EP.

If you think you’ve heard all electronic music subgenres have to offer, perhaps you’ve not tried “death twerk”. My Little Demons is a shorter but equally interesting piece with what I can only describe as a ‘screeching’ drop. Definitely something unique, sorta resembles trap and has elements of glitch hop but is really unlike anything I’ve heard recently.

And finally, Horse Party“It’s a working title!” Sharing a certain sample with Phoxi’s track Starlight Ataraxia, this drum & bass piece is based mostly around a standard dnb pattern and plucked bass sounds fill the drop. Add in some detuned saw pads and this somewhat short but fun track brings the EP to a close.

Internal Errors shows the range of production under PVNK’s belt. While some parts of it bear resemblance to the more commercial side of electronic music, the songs on this EP still push the boundaries and show innovation. It’s a snapshot of creativity and shows just how far you can go when it comes to music production.

You can buy this EP from Phoxi/PVNK’s Bandcamp.
