Released last weekend, upcoming player in the EDM pony scene FruityFusion has dropped a massive twenty track long compilation of his recent explorations into a large variety of musical styles. From house to hardcore, catch the full write up below!

The album kicks off with a banger melbourne track which originally released just last month. The initial build and drop are totally on point which- I can say from experience- sounds awesome live. You also get an interesting bit of vocal glitching prior to going into the second drop.
Fruity follows up with a trap composition, Bad Bass Pony, which plays a lot with some gritty bitcrush textures, detuned vocals, and pitched percussion. And you get to hear some more drums of a similar nature in the third track.

Everfree is a jungle terror track that- similar to Are you nuts?– fantastically executes its build and drop which, again, sounds awesome played live. Things progress into an awesome future house vibe which features some cool jungle fx over the pumping oldschool house beat. I don’t feel that the wobble bass holds up as well but it’s certainly a creative decision that makes the composition stand out.
The fourth track, Equestrian Tribes, is a short dubstep track that tests out a lot of varying sound design. I feel the the core beat doesn’t punch through as hard as it could but there’s some very cool… it’s almost like arpeggiated, percussive tones. Great inclusion there.

The album continues with the dubstep soundscape with a collab with Ferex. I hesitate to be too critical with this track as I’m personally not a fan of melodic dubstep, but it’s always good to expand your horizons. And it’s always cool to see artists working together.

Fruity follows up with a very cool experiment in synthwave with the track Horse Aesthetics. I think it’s definitely one to check out if you’re one of those fans of the 80’s vibe as it features an array of retro synth styles.

Not to be left out with the Sweep remix trend, Fruity has his own tech house addition. The track’s foundation is built from a clicky bass kick preceded by white noise sweeps. It makes extensive use of a frequency modulated sine wave to get a nice deep bass.

Track 8, Sweet Apple Kush, is another great addition to the small yet driven pony tech house scene (of which I’m quite the fan). This track is one of my favorites on the album, and it does a hypnotic job of progressing its trippy groove.

Brandishing some of the most iconic vocal samples of the hard dance and hardcore scenes, The Hard Way marches forth on hardstyle kicks until hitting a funky breakbeat section midway through. And then back to hardstyle but with hats pumping on the backbeat.

Continuing on in the hardstyle block, we’ve got a remix of SonicTap’s track Sunshines. Midway through the track dives into dubstep for a bit before coming back with the melodic plucks and hardstyle kicks.

BOIIIIIII HERE WE GO! Fruity serves up a great remix of Cosine’s work featuring some savage hardcore kicks. The song has a nice progression and is definitely one you want to check out if you’re in on that core vibe.

Originally featured on the Alberta wildfire charity album and again just recently on the King Mars charity album, this drum & bass track packs a very sci-fi vibe reminiscent of the Unreal Tournament soundtracks. Also might I add that Fruity has an excellent taste in artwork 😉
Track 13, Slow Waves, is an electronic piece that chugs along with a house-y beat colored by various percussive melodies. Pretty easy going, but it’s nice.

AND- oh content warning on this track btw- WE BACK TO HARDCORE. Additionally featured on this year’s annual installment of the (NSFL) Pinkamena Party franchise, this gabber track is pretty wild with both a double time section and some Winter Wrap Up vocals.

More crunchy disto kicks here with a remix of a TQBF track. As I don’t think I’ve mentioned it yet, Fruity definitely has a knack for sculpting heavy kicks, a skill which is well exhibited on all these gabber tunes.

The last of the rougher tracks on the album, It’s a working Title! tries to do a lot stylistically, but I think it really takes off at 1:11 once it plunges into a bouncy frenchcore groove that’s complemented by an awesome rhythmic lead.

Nearing the end of the collection, the album snaps back down in tempo to the future house tune Future Pony. I really dig the general soundscape and think it sports a really catchy melody. Again, I don’t think the wobble bass holds up in contrast, but it’s a track that I think would be fun to bring in during a mix.

The first tune I heard from Fruity, Hiatus features some piano work over a lighter, uk hardcore vibe until briefly breaking into a rawer gabber segment. I think Fruity’s already grown substantially since the track released back in January, but the track still showcases Fruity’s daringness to try mixing a variety of styles.

The second to last track on the album, One Summer Without Ponies is a pretty mellow deep house track. It sticks to its fundamental groove throughout while playing with some chill melodies.
Finally, the album closes off with a trap VIP of The Hard Way. It’s definitely similar to Bad Bass Pony in its design but it also features some cool, bubbling synth work.
Wew, we made it haha. Again, at twenty tracks long, there’s certainly a lot of content for you to dig into. With so much experimentation, some ideas stand stronger than others, but you’ve got a lot to work with here. As it has been established, FruityFusion is both an artist with an exceptional diversity of style and one that is continually improving his craft. You can keep up with his new releases via YouTube and you can also connect with him on Twitter. Also, he spins hour long DJ sets on Friday night over with our friends on PVFM! Hoof yeah 🙂
