SCR4TCHK4T – Idols: the digital notepad passion project | Electronic Album

Idols: the digital notepad passion project is SCR4TCHK4T’s latest pony album, and it’s quite the undertaking. Each track on the album is inspired by another fandom musician, but she also imitates that artist’s style and genre. Anyone familiar with the idolized artist will delight in listening through the album blind and figuring out which songs are for which artist. There’s the infamous “Dylan core” samples of Vylet Pony, the background pony chops and auto-tune heavy vocals of Rawrity, the pop-based piano and “Weight of the world” samples of Evershade, the brass and upbeat eurobeat sounds of Odyssey. The list of references and styles successfully imitated goes on and on, and with 16 tracks on the album, it takes you on quite the journey.

Some of my favorite tracks are as follows:

  • Track 13, “Aurora. (LH)”, is bouncy, energetic, and infectious. It features vocal lines from Rainbow Dash, and chops of Fluttershy, giving it a classic brony vibe.
  • With most of the tracks heavily electronic, track 7, “Serenity. (MP)”, provides a lovely break with its gorgeous piano and guitar ostenatos. It’s refreshing like fresh air, and a great listen on its own.
  • Track 12, “Nova. (GS)” is as SCR4TCH points out sillier than some of the other songs, but the fun vibe is infection, and you can hear just how much fun SCR4TCH is having in her vocal performance.
  • Last of the artist inspired tracks, “Pioneer. (S)” delivers a full force, packed finish. The first drop is absolutely insane, and the sound design is incredible.
