Vylet Pony – Fairytails | Alternate Electronic

The title track from Vylet Pony’s latest album Super Pony World: Fairytails really sets out to impress! Primarily showcasing a chiptune style, the whole track sounds straight out of a video game. It starts out with just a set of brooding choir chords before a plucked sound joins in; it quickly transitions to a pure chiptune melody with the whole 9 yards: digitized drums and plucky 8-bit melodies. We only have a few seconds to enjoy this before the song properly kicks in. There’s an adventurous melody played along numerous different synth sounds and styles, which really makes this unique piece sound out. Just over halfway in, Vylet’s voice pops in, sounding soulful and powerful as ever. Another banger to add to the list!

The Empty Tomb – The Fall of The Crystal Empire | Hybrid Trap

Nothing can stop the return of the evil King Sombra. This track fits his aura really well, painting a picture of his second attempt at destroying the Crystal Empire with a vengeance. The drop is heavy as can be, and those orchestral trap moments really capture Sombra’s dark side. Two different styles of music coming together like this is a blessing!

The Balefire Symphony – I Love You (Fallout Day 2020) | Hybrid Orchestral

A unique ballad, this one. Lead by an orchestral backing with strong drums, Harvest Orange sings to himself about his desire to find his wife in his last hours on the planet. His vocals really put you in the moment and the instrumentation is full of emotion, especially towards the middle!

[P@D] BlueBrony & Totalspark – The Secret Agent | Hybrid Orchestral

BlueBrony and Totalspark (the latter’s second of two contributions) join forces to create something unique as part of Ponies at Dawn: Eclipse: a unique combination of orchestral music and dubstep! It really captures the feeling of an intense spy mission, especially when the surprising rock elements make their way in!

[P@D] Radiarc – Of Shadows and Nightmares | Orchestral

Anime theme song, anyone? Track 38 from Ponies at Dawn: Eclipse is Of Shadows and Nightmares from Radiarc, an orchestral piece with some power! This one is sprinkled with goodness from each string instrument to the quickly plucked strings, to even the piano; it all comes together to form something that would fit well in a movie trailer or anime opening. I get chills every time that piano riff comes in. You know, there’s a reason why Radiarc is regarded at the top of the MLP music scene, and this song is a great example!

GrazySmash & MEQA – Hoof Shaker (Butterflight Remix) | Future House

A first attempt at future house from Butterflight with their remix of Hoof Shaker, originally by GrazySmash and MEQA! This track basically starts with a buildup that quickly leads into a drop, which sounds fantabulous. The main melody’s generated with what sounds like detuned piano reminiscent of 90s house, which occasionally changes up a bit throughout the song. It’s bouncy and features the perfect tempo. Not bad for a song made in under 24 hours!

[P@D] FilledSilhoutte – The Personalities | French House

After some fine French House? FilledSilhoutte’s got you covered. Track 20 from Ponies at Dawn: Eclipse is The Personalities, which is also the final single from his upcoming album Rarity’s Fashion Playlist. The funk in this track is palpable; the samples featured are put to good use behind some bunchy drumlines. The highlights are when those samples are layered in effects and muffled, before building up right back into the action! Sweetness from start to finish. Expect Rarity’s Fashion Playlist to come out on December 18th!

Koron Korak – No Answers Refine Doubts | Dark Ambient

Boy, this one is bleak. Koron Korak’s latest outing is a vent piece in the form of a dark ambient track, No Answers Refine Doubts. Dark, deep synths carry the track along, with other sounds from a piano and harsh droning synths coming in occasionally to switch it up over the song’s 8 minute length. I have a big soft spot for ambient music like this. It’s so different from the norm and often times minimal, but there’s always a looming feeling to it, hence the name “dark ambient”. It might not be for you, but I recommend you give it a spin at least once.

Nicolas Dominique – The Daybreaking Nightmare | Trance

Something spacey from the mind of Nicolas Dominique. The Daybreaking Nightmare is a trance track dedicated to the dastardly duo of Nightmare Moon and Daybreaker. For a track made in a short time for the halloween season, it’s so polished and full of atmosphere. The piano melody, while simple, really sets the tone for the rest of the song alongside the impressive synth riffs and heavenly choir sounds. You can really hear the dynamics between the two sisters throughout the whole thing!

Power Note – Night and Day | Melodic Dubstep

How about something wholesome? Power Note’s got you covered with Night and Day, a sweet and sour melodic dubstep track that begins with a beautiful melody played by a piano and synthesizers, followed by a build up that leads into a surprisingly harsh synth section with the punchiest of drums! As it goes on, the heavenly piano jumps right back in to replace the heavy synths to give the song time to breathe, before building up yet again with an almost future bass-y kind of sound which carries on throughout the rest of the song. Power Note has a penchant for creating atmospheres. Just listen to how diverse this song gets!
