Scraton – Aesthetics | Chillstep

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 25 December 2017.

Scraton’s music is always really interesting, and this tune especially has a lot of little sounds that feel quite fitting to the song’s name. The addition of some vocal elements also adds depth to the tune, and the chilled out composition mixes well with the glitch-y vibes through the track.

BlueBrony – Namby Pamby | Hip-Hop

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 25 November 2017.

BlueBrony always makes awesome unique interpretations of recent episodes, and this one about Pharynx is excellently done. A bit of 90’s style rapping with a funky beat helps tell a humorous story from the changeling’s perspective and the vocals are just the right amount of cheesy throughout, with some clever lyrics too.

Alexey Kotlyar – Raven | Orchestral

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 25 November 2017.

A haunting beginning to this track from Alexey Kotlyar sets the scene with some ambient sounds and the crow of ravens before spooky strings start to play an eerie waltz. A bit of a character piece, this definitely has a defined dark atmosphere throughout, and makes great use of foreboding yet playful melodies.

eksoka – Advanced Magic | Progressive Trance

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 21 November 2017.

eksoka’s production just keeps improving this year! Probably my personal favourite track from the new Candy album by A State Of Sugar, this piece is full of awesome electro sounds wrapped up in a trance-y coating. The flow through the track is exemplary, and the power of the sounds is terrific.

Filly In The Box – Hoofprints In The Snow | Dubstep

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 22 November 2017.

More Filly In The Box good-ness! A soft spooky intro is followed by some some cool plucks that lead into some infectiously groovy pony vocal chops that mix well with some lovely bass sounds. That theme of combining chops with electro sound design continues throughout the track and is done excellently.

Seventh Element – The Equestrian Wasteland – Part 1: Hope And Despair | Album | Post-Rock

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 22 November 2017.

Seventh Element makes some cool tunes, but where he really excels is in the creation of concept albums such as this. With a combination of spooky ambient soundscapes and driving indie rock beats, this album definitely helps to visualise the desolate landscapes of Fallout Equestria. Check it out below for half an hour of hope and despair!

Zizkil – She Only Comes Out At Night (TCB Remix) | Dubstep

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 19 November 2017.

TCB’s unique sound design is all over this new track, a remix of Zizkil’s recent Flutterbat-track. There’s some pretty aggressive sound design that mixes well with the spooky atmosphere of the original, and TCB’s mixing is clearly improving too. The vocal chops in the break add to the dark feel, and overall this is a real cool remix.

Ponytronic – Near Clear Skies (iblank2apples Remix) | Melodic Dubstep

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 20 November 2017.

Another new track from iblank2apples, something I certainly wouldn’t complain about! This one’s a melodic dubstep track that takes Ponytronic’s original in a pretty exciting new direction. There’s plenty of blank’s customary sound design, however the dubstep tempo definitely helps it shine in a different way and the melodic interjections are excellent.

Przewalski’s Ponies – Lunar Song ii | Alt. Rock

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 17 November 2017.

Russian-based band Przewalski’s Ponies have another new collaborative work out, and it’s pretty epic! A pop-y rock track that features some epic guitar solo work and some solid vocals throughout, it’s a fun piece for sure. Songs about Luna are always great to see, and this is definitely one of the cooler ones in recent times.

The L-Train – Rainbow (covering Sia) | Metal

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 12 November 2017.

The L-Train has thrown his hat into the ring with a cover of Sia’s song from the movie, Rainbow. One of the most fully realised covers I’ve heard of the song so far, the juxtaposition between L-Train’s relatively soft clear vocals with an instrumental that gets pretty energetic works really well. and overall this is a pretty great effort.
