Nyanakaru’s latest album, Things That are Good Cannot Last (or TTaGCL for short), drops today, and true to its name, the album has a very existential sound. It’s full of experimental electronic ambience filled with glitchy, chiptune-esque sounds with each track pulling in influence from a different genre like trance, latin or hip-hop. The sound design is incredible, especially with its choice of percussion samples, and its constant shifting sounds leaves listeners wondering what’s next to come.
The album is on the shorter side, so make sure to give it a quick listen! Below the break you’ll find some of my favorite tracks
- Track 4, “D.A.M.o. SWORDEN9 LOCA Filly”, blends the glitchy arpeggios synths with latin influence, even mixing in Spanish lyrics. The result is a highly dance-able bop which fits nicely into the album.
- Track 5, “CHeMTRaIL! Supra-set (TM)”, begins as a very chill piece with its arpeggios giving it a high tech, future-esque feel, but… YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THE GNARLIEST OF DROPS. The wubs go off the charts, completely shifting the tone from delicate daintiness to dystopic danger.
- Tack 6, ”GOOD THINGS (WILL) PERISH”, is the hip-hop fusion track, with all of the classic scratching and lyrics meeting an ominous sub bass. The distorted guitar is such a nice touch, and the heavily distorted kick drum hits take it over the top.
