Back in 2013, JoafTheLoaf and Feather brought us an amazing love song with “The Hardest Thing”. Today, 11 years later, NAMII and Galaxysquid give us their own take on this tune. Keeping the calm melody of the original, the amazing voices of both adapt perfectly the lyrics telling of the struggles of having fallen in love with someone else, but not having the courage to tell that other. SpinScissor – Love Is in the Air | Electro Pop

If there is any musician that can create a catchy instrumental for their music, it’s SpinScissor, and this song is one of those earworm melodies. This track opens with Spin using extremely heavy autotune, which I don’t remember him ever doing to that high of a degree. In fact, most of the singing styles that Spin used feels unique compared to what Spin usually does; I honestly cannot remember a time where he added grittiness to his singing as well. This just adds not only to the edginess of the track and it’s theme, but is a testament to Spin’s already incredible singing talents.

HARMONY BOP – THE CRYSTAL KING | POST-HARDCORE

PRAISE HIM! One of the fandom’s relatively newest metal musicians understands the weight of King Sombra’s ego, and demonstrates his tyranny beautifully through this hard-hitting track. While the instrumental follows a standard metal setup, Harmony Bop mixes it up with a synth solo as well as some counterpoint vocals. Adding in just a bit of that Scandinavian touch, this is one song and artist you do not want to sleep on!

GAZINGMOON – ComeOut | Witch House

We all know Fluttershy as a kind and caring character, but does she have a darker side? One of our fandom’s newest musicians, GAZINGMOON, explores this idea in their track, “ComeOut.” It’s quiet, creepy, sinister, and features extremely crunched samples of Fluttershy screaming. The arpeggiating pads and extremely tight snare add to the eerie feel–this is not the kind of house you normally hear, so make sure to check out its unique soundscape (unless you’re too scared to)!

Saphire Systrine – a little bit of darkness | Dark Ambient

Each one of us harbors some inner demons, and Saphire Systrine channels these emotions tangibly in this fittingly named track. Starting with a simple synthetic piano, layer on layer gets added on top of each other to create an interplay of sound that conveys feelings of inner strain and how fast they may emerge within oneself, supplemented by the abrupt change of composition towards the end. Make sure to let yourself be carried on this journey by giving this track a listen!

This new banger really fuses together elements from both classical and EDM traditions–the track opens with strings carrying the track before it transitions into its epic kick, snare, and bass of course! Frozen Night – Scarlet Rain’s Elegy | Symphonic Metal

The penultimate track of Frozen Night’s long-awaited album, Time’s Arrow, has arrived.  Like a portent of epic adventure on the horizon, a tense intro features melancholy melodies dotted with hope-filled tones and backed by solemn strings and piano strokes. The tension builds and reaches a climactic burst of percussion, strings, and electric guitars, transforming Idylya’s soft lullaby into a warrior’s anthem. Powerful vocals from the ever-talented vocalist/singer-songwriter Celica Soldream cut seamlessly through the storm of emotion, inviting the listener to push through the chaos to a peaceful solitude just beyond the tumultuous winds. Will you answer the call?

Thrack – Never Give Up (Feat. CantoAcrylic & Tall Pine) | Folk

Thrack has teamed up with Canto and Tall Pine to make a warm and hopeful track set in the Fallout Equestria universe. It opens with Pine going ham on a sick mandolin riff before Canto and Thrack take turns singing inspiring lyrics about never “give[ing] up the fight” even if it costs them everything. Towards the end, their voices join together briefly to modulate to a different key, and it’s absolutely heavenly. The instrumentation is also incredibly lush with guitar, banjo, mandolin, and even some glockenspiel. All together, this song’s sure to help you smile even through the darkest of times.

Abdul Hakiim – Babs Seed (covering Daniel Ingram) | Metal

Are you ready to cope with childhood bullying by screaming about it? Then look no further than Abdul Hakiim’s cover of Babs Seed from Season 3 of Friendship is Magic. The song alternates from soft, male vocals over mellow guitar lines to disgruntled screams over heavy drums and shredding, sometimes back to back between stanzas! The stylistic contrast is incredible, and it’s paired with the original visuals distorted to hammer home that vibe. It’s a must listen for MLP metal fans.
