Henni – Beautiful Smile | House
NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 28 February 2017.
Sometimes it’s nice to have music that seems to have one purpose – and that’s to convey joy and happiness. Henni’s recent Wonderful Friends EP sets out exactly with that goal in mind and to me, Beautiful Smile accomplishes it fantastically. Upbeat synths playfully dance around some really upbeat progressions, and it definitely leaves me with a smile.
Zephysonas – The Hour of Twilight | Orchestral
NB: This is an edited version of what was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 27 February 2017.
Zephysonas is back with a slowly building and powerful track about Twilight Sparkle. As more elements enter in throughout the piece, it becomes steadily more complex, which helps to convey a sense of increasing scale over time.
174UDSI – To The Stars And Beyond | Uplifting Trance
This new release from 174UDSI has the concept of ponies journeying in space to seek new habitats, and it is served in much uplifting vibes as Trance-y synths and melodies reply to the lyrics in a very hopeful, positive way. A cheerful Equestrian anthem for space for sure!
GhostXb – Not So Resilient | Orchestral
NB: This is an edited version of what was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 27 February 2017.
A swell effect occurs in this piece, however here it is done through clever increase of tension through the same elements becoming more and more taut and intense before a beautiful calm in the second half. A piece beautiful in its own ways, and well worth giving a listen!
Midnight Musician – Cider Party (MrMehster Remix) | Electro House
Rejoice party ponies, because MrMehster treats us with an amazing remix of the memorable recent Cider Party held at Midnight Musician’s! Restarting the party all over again, and this time with a banging Electro House spin, the remix creates much party spirit with a lively instrumental delightfully reminding of the Party With Pinkie days, while also showcasing the vocals from the original track with much style and panache. A perfect remix and party anthem to play during many crazy nights! This one’s on me, my ponies! (Pinkie voice) Also, I’m writing this as I have my coffee in an official Cider Party mug, I think this is the best mug I could have for this!
4EverfreeBrony – Just Another Day In Ponyville | Acapella
NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 26 February 2017.
Something we don’t get a whole lot of in the fandom, 4everfree has released some a capella music! His vocals work beautifully here, and there’s some great extra mouth noises and layering of the vocals to help give it a pretty full sound. As with a lot of a capella songs, this is pretty upbeat, and it’s nice to see 4everfree continue to give different styles a go.
HACKD – Sunshine Like Marmalade | Drum & Bass
Historical moment as our beloved HACKD from the HMH team and Cider Party makes his debut on the site as a solo post! Also it’s not often that we get a YouTube release at all either, and it’s unfortunate especially considering that the underground musician makes really awesome tunes! And this one is no exception! Bringing forth highly energetic vocals from S6’s memorable griffon Gabriella “Gabby”, it unleashes powerful DnB greatness and makes for an amazing progression full of crazy vocal work and mad synths, showcasing that blissful sound design that is almost becoming a signature sound, and paying well-deserved tribute to Gabby.
Jyc Row – The Ancient Elements | Orchestral
NB: This is an edited version of what was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 26 February 2017.
Jyc explores the outer reaches of Equestria, with a piece inspired by this beautiful art from ziom05. It has a lot of his usual celtic influences that play a large part in the soundscape here, and there’s some great thudding percussion as well that helps to give the idea of an epic journey.
Reverbrony – Unbound | Metal
Reverbrony is back in full force with his heavier musical style, so it’s time to partake in epic melodic guitar solos and riffs once again! Reflecting so well the amazing cover art by JaDeDJynX, Unbound unleashes heavy guitars and drums backed up by a solid bass in a relentless progression, like in a blaze of fury, except that it’s blissful sounds instead of magical attacks. Although, if music truly is magic, I must say those are very efficient attacks!
