Steely Hooves – Mare of Constant Sorrow | Acoustic / Folk

Yes, that’s a ponification of Man of Constant Sorrow. Yes I absolutely love that Steely’s done this. It’s a simple version, performed just with voice and acoustic guitar, like the version from the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? Keeping it simple sometimes works out for the best, and it certainly does so here.

ertrii – Perfect Day | Drum & Bass

Hey, that artwork looks familiar… Don’t let the genre label deceive you, it’s still got ertrii’s signature chill vibe to it, just at a much faster tempo than usual. Short but sweet, this song does seem to encapsulate the essence of the artwork used in the form of sound.

Sights Unseen – Lullaby | Synthpop

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 9 November 2016.

Starting out with some haunting vocal choir-like harmonies, an ominous bassline soon rolls in, signifying that this is certainly not an especially happy song. Whilst it feels quite dark, I think the intended tone of this track is one of accepting that it’s okay to say goodbye. This is translated well with a transition later in the track towards more uplifting and yet sorrowful chords. Definitely a cool track from Sights, and well worth checking out if you want something bittersweet.

DJRedSkY – Moving on | Deep House

In continuation from the last post which was about Luna’s Breaking Point as she became Nightmare Moon, this new Deep House track from DJRedSkY enacts in musical format her repentance and acceptance, Moving On. Perfectly reflecting the peace of mind conveyed by the gorgeous artwork by Viwrastupr used as the cover art, the track takes us for a blissful voyage among crystalline sounds and melodies.

Chris Wöhrer -When You Are Supposed To Socialize But Turn Your Friends Into Mindless Zombies Instead | Metal

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 8 November 2016.

Well, that’s quite the track name! Insane track name length aside, this piece about Starlight Glimmer’s escapades is awesome in all the right ways. It’s got some pretty non-stop energy, and the guitar riffs are all pretty great. It’s also cool to be able to see Chris Wohrer playing live courtesy of the video, where he (intentially or not, I don’t know!) pulls all sorts of amusing faces along the way. If that sounds like fun to you, make sure to check it out below!

New Reverian – Night Of The Willow | Orchestral

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 8 November 2016.

New Reverian makes a combination of orchestral and electronic tracks, and whilst some of their electronic stuff has been quite popular this track shows their orchestral works can be just as good! Luna is a popular source of inspiration for pieces such as this, and the heavy night-like tone of the track certainly fits her well. The woodwind and foley sounds back up some strong drums, piano and strings wonderfully, and overall this is a pretty neat track!
