Indie Notes – Under Equestria’s Skies | Album | Acoustic

As I said the other week, Indie Notes may have been away from the music scene for a while, but that was only in preparation for this – his debut fandom album, entitled Under Equestria’s Skies. The album overall is very chill and mellow, with the main composition made up of an acoustic guitar and Indie’s Voice, although it does feature a couple of other instruments every now and again for additional melodies. But that doesn’t hinder the songs at all, in fact, stripping back a performance to this level is often a great way to put the songwriting back into the spotlight instead of technical skill*.

The themes covered vary too, from the happy-go-lucky vibe of Change of Place, to Spike’s longing for self-discovery in Waiting, to the bleak lyricism in Survive. If you like acoustic music in any shape or form, you’re going to love this little collection of six songs from one of my favourite up-and-coming acoustic artists in the fandom.

Under Equestria’s Skies is available to purchase on Bandcamp for $6 or alternatively, if you’re attending Ponycon in New Jersey this weekend, you’ll be able to get your hands on a physical copy!

*Oh, and don’t get me wrong, that aspect is still important, but perhaps sometimes overshadows other parts of creating music. I appreciate the different angle this album brings.

Crusader! ft. Wubcake – Legend of Everfree (covering Daniel Ingram) | Acoustic Rock

Cute ukulele-driven rock song? You betcha; it’s the usual from Crusader!, teaming up with Wubcake again to turn this into a duet. It also features what seems to be Cru’s entire collection of musical instruments, from ukulele to electric guitar to melodica (not harmonica!), with solid mixing so you can hear every single one crystal clear.

FritzyBeat & NyxTheShield – Scootaloo’s Wings (covering JackleApp) | Acoustic

FritzyBeat is no stranger to beautiful vocal work and it shows in this wonderful cover of a JackleApp track, Scootaloo’s Wings. Fritzy is joined by an Undertale fan-music veteran, NyxTheShield, on guitar. It’s a wonderfully powerful rendition; the guitar strumming is smooth and expertly plucked with vocals perfectly layered atop. Fritzy’s vocals are considerably deeper and more drawn out than the original, and the guitar plucks from NyxTheShield more sharp too, making this track a treat even for those intimately familiar with the original.

Indie Notes – Waiting | Acoustic

Indie Notes is back after a very long time away from the music scene, and seemingly starting his channel afresh. However, he is preparing to release a brand new album in the coming days too, so don’t fret, there’s plenty of great stuff like this to come! Take a listen to this fantastic acoustic number about Spike – very mellow instrumentation and vocals with a nice little hook in the chorus and even a solo!

I am so ready for Indie’s album perhaps we might even do a full review…

ForeverFreest – I Don’t Complain (covering Luna Jax) | Acoustic

Continuing the chill train from earlier, here’s a nice little acoustic cover of Luna Jax’s hit I Don’t Complain. Lovely soft piano and drums accompany an acoustic guitar and Freest’s great voice in this wonderfully stripped-back piece, a pleasure to listen to!

If you like WoodLore’s style, you’ll love this. Strongly focused on his trademark vocals, this piece shows them off in a great way. There’s some quality guitar-work as well as some uplifiting strings later in the track as it builds up towards the end. Make sure to check it out below for an awesome Starlight Glimmer-inspired tune!

Released just in time for Luna day, 4everfreebrony brings us a new track from his recently published album, Hoping. Featuring some really pretty acoustic guitar work, and 4everfree’s signature strong vocal performance, this is definitely one of my favourite songs from the album. Make sure to check it out for some solemn music to help you celebrate the princess of the night!

4everfreebrony – Sun & Moon (feat. FritzyBeat)

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 8 December 2016.

A new piece from 4everfree’s album Hoping featuring some vocals from FritzyBeat, Sun & Moon is a pretty relaxing piece that brings a pretty mellow tone with it. With a slight country vibe to it, this piece is carried by the wonderful vocals on show, but also features some very nice soft guitar and percussion, as well as some lovely piano-work too. Make sure to check it out below!

4everfreebrony – Hoping (feat. Giggly Maria & Relative1Pitch) | Acoustic Pop

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 27 November 2016.

A revamp of a song he wrote whilst in Argentina that some of you might remember, ‘Hoping’, this fully realised version is wonderfully produced and features some excellent vocals too. The emotion in the piano, the guitar and the vocals themselves help push the vision of the piece. This track is available as the title track on 4everfree’s new album, Hoping, which I highly recommend checking out. It also features a bunch of his other recent hits such as ‘Smell The Roses’, ‘Bound With Time’, ‘Carry On’ and more!
