Elias Frost (ft. KaMmEr JaEgEr & Ice Gaze) – Bats (covering Daniel Ingram) | Metal

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 28 November 2016.

Elias Frost has teamed up with a couple of other artists to finish up his month of German-language show song covers in a big way! Probably one of the coolest interpretations of this track, the use of different language vocals help this one stick out a lot. The vocals from Ice Gaze are sung in English however, which means there’s a bit of both in this track! The instrumental is pretty solid too, and a lot heavier than some of the other recent stuff Elias has done.

Horse Music Hotspot – November 2016

End of the month – time for another hotspot episode. Apologies it’s been uploaded a little later than normal this month, but now it’s available on YouTube, SoundCloud, and our podcast feed.

Another month draws to a close, and so it’s time for another episode of the Horse Music Hotspot. Despite and ongoing overwhelming presence of electronica, this month saw a great deal of rock and acoustic music, so there’s something for everyone in this month’s episode.

To listen in live, tune in to Ponyville FM at 10PM Eastern on the last Sunday of each month!

Tracklist and embeds available after the break.

The Wonderbolts Band – RAINBOW | Garage Rock

Rejoice everypony, The Wonderbolts are BACK with a new song, and this one is ready to ROCK the concert hall! A mighty ponification of Threshold from the fictional band Sex Bob-Omb, it pays tribute to The Rainbooms in much rock spirit, bringing those delightful Garage/Indie/Punk Rock vibes, in an amazing performance and along a very fitting music video made by the band’s drummer, Wootmaster. This is making you want to cheer for the band with a hoof in the air at the gig, or salute the members as you luckily spot them coming out of the garage rehearsal room and carrying their instruments in their cases! Show your support to The Wonderbolts, because this pony band is awesome, and keep rocking!

Top Ten Pony Songs of October 2016 released!

More community voted Top 10 songs, and a good half of them came from Ponies At Dawn: Voyager, great job by the entire P@D collective. Anyway, take a look at which pony songs* made it into the top 10 this month.

*Oh, and Say by BlackGryph0n & Baasik is in there too for whatever reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Fire Frets – Chasing Fate (Covering 4everfreebrony & Relative1Pitch) | Country

Fire Frets serves us with an incredible cover here at the apple orchard for Applejack day, delivering an honest and masterful performance of 4everfreebrony’s original song Chasing Fate featuring Relative1Pitch. Every instrument played with much passion, the musical ride takes us through the emotional piano melodies, the beautiful violin performance from Relative1Pitch, wonderful new vocals, and blissful guitar play, to retell the moving story. The Apple family truly would be proud.

Soul Strings – A Contrived Sporadic (Covering ShinZm) | Progressive Metal

Inspired by the amazing intrumental work of ShinZm, Soul Strings covered A Contrived Sporadic and not only the new instrumental pays much tribute to the original, but the added vocals also pay tribute to the original theme of Twilight while focusing on the headcanon of her immortality. We certainly do need more pony Prog Metal (and Prog Rock!) so such a cover is so very welcome.

Steely Hooves – Mare of Constant Sorrow | Acoustic / Folk

Yes, that’s a ponification of Man of Constant Sorrow. Yes I absolutely love that Steely’s done this. It’s a simple version, performed just with voice and acoustic guitar, like the version from the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? Keeping it simple sometimes works out for the best, and it certainly does so here.

Versal – Please Don’t Shoot Me Down (ft. Silver Note & Buffalo Brony) | Rap / Hip-Hop

It’s a rework / cover of a parody of a Lil Wayne song. The original parody was done by Versal, Dubious, and Rhyme Flow back in 2013, and this version has Silver Note on vocals for the chorus (which IMO sounds better Lil Wayne’s original) and Buffy rapping his own custom 2nd verse. However, this goes in a very different direction to the 2013 version and focuses on the aftermath of Lightning Dust’s demise in Wonderbolt Academy, and completely changes the tone of the refrain.

Elias Frost – We Will Stand For Everfree (Cover) | Metal

There don’t seem to be as many songs related to the latest Equestria Girls movie yet, but luckily Elias Frost is here to put his own nordic metal spin onto things. (And if you stick around to the end you’ll hear a little surprise reprise)
