FillyInTheBox – Sugar Meltdown | Electro

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 7 November 2016.

Filly in the Box has been on fire recently, and this trend continues with another heavy track dominated by powerful bass design. The Pinkie Pie vocal chops help to set the tone of the track before the distorted-feeling bass sounds come in to drive it forward with some great energy and compositional design. Definitely worth checking out if you like the heavy stuff!

StrachAttack – Nightmare VIP | Electro

S P O O P Y   M U S I C   T I M E ! The original version of this was released in October 2014, and it’s been rebooted just in time for Nightmare Night 2016. It follows that sort of electro / glitch-hop crossover that I’ve seen only a few other times recently, a really cool sound, and it shows just how far Strach has come since this time 2 years ago!

[P@D] NeverLastStanding – Kronos | Moombahcore / Electro

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 20 October 2016.

NeverLastStanding has made a lot of pretty cool remixes over the last year, but it’s his original releases that really excite me, so I’m glad we’ve been getting a few more of those recently. Here, he’s released a moombah-style track that draws heavily on vocal chopping Pinkie Pie’s voice, and has some really awesome chords and melodies. It switches up a lot, and doesn’t stick with one melody for too long, which helps to make sure it doesn’t get boring. A really high energy track, this is definitely worth checking out!

[P@D] Brilliant Venture – Radio Mare | Complextro

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 9 October 2016.

Brilliant Venture seems to have one mission – to mash together as many wubs and pony vocals as possible. This tracks certainly pushes him further along that adventure with an awesome mix of complextro sounds, and pony samples galore. The build up to the drop especially makes fantastic use of the ‘I’ve Been Dreaming’ song from Rainbow Dash. If ponies and chilled out complextro drops are your thing, this is more than worth a listen!

[P@D] Lovestruck Brony – Such A Strange Thing / Sonic Rainboom – Something in the Cookies | Drum & Bass

Two very different dnb songs, both from the new Ponies At Dawn album! First up is Lovestruck Brony, known moreso for his electo house style. Well his song Such A Strange Thing doesn’t completely abandon said principle – alongside the huge basses and plucks, there are two cleverly incorporated tempo changes in this where it goes from dnb to electro and back to dnb again. It’s really unique, take a listen for yourself!

And next up, something from Sonic Rainboom with a more darkstep sound. Making good use of breakbeat samples, this song captures the feel of the second half of the episode 28 Pranks Later. A perfect style for zombie ponies!

[P@D] lia;quo – Awakening | Mashup / Complextro

The opening track for Voyager really is something truly special. It combines and samples, in some way or another, every single song from the previous Ponies At Dawn album, Awakening (hence the title). Lia explains the process in the video description, but before you read that, just take a listen to this masterpiece, an ode to P@D!
