Elias Frost – Legend You Are Meant To Be (Cover) | Metal

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 5 July 2018.

Elias Frost has another cover of a track from Legend Of Everfree, which means he’s covered most of them by now with only a couple more that he’ll doubtless get to in future. This one’s got a great uplifting feel in keeping with the original, but a bit more metal to it of course.

Reverbrony – Kraken | Post-Metal

The depths of the ocean are scary and eternal, our ancestors before sailing the seas had fear of the mighty beasts that the oceans may hide. I guess that’s what fellow metal artist Reverbrony thought in making this song. 7 minutes of pure ethereal and atmospheric guitar riffs that put you inside the deep ocean, praying for your life. The “sludgyness” of the track plus with the various textures make this song really outstanding from the others that Reverbrony has produced. Is the Kraken real in Equestria? Did fellow sailorponies fear the depths of the sea? That will be a question for another episode. I recommend this track for fans of Post-Metal or any type of Doom/Sludge Metal. But everyone should listen to this! Keep up the good work Reverbrony!

Destabilize is intense throughout with an awesome breakdown which uses a mechanical-like synth to really bring a cool dynamic to the heavy track. Frozen Night – Tears of The Evernight | Orchestral Metal

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 30 May 2018.

Frozen Night’s works are always lovely to listen to and this beautiful piece is no different. The instrumentation throughout the track evolves in an especially gratifying way and there’s some pretty epic progressions as well. As is often the case with Frozen’s works, there’s a nice touch of metal guitar meshed together with the powerful strings and percussion.

Blackened Blue – The Rising Sun | Metal

Blackened Blue is really beginning to gain some ground, especially with tracks like this one! The Rising Sun starts out with a great, almost misleadingly soft guitar intro before taking the built-up tension and exploding into an incredible metal instrumental. The guitar work in this piece is top notch with excellent dual harmonies and syncopation, and are further supported with the great composition and mix. With a tempo and a beat that really bring out the Daybreaker levels of intensity, Blackened Blue gives us a phenomenal track!
