R3CTIFIER – FOR3VER | Drumstep

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 7 December 2016.

A new track from R3CTIFIER teasing his upcoming R3CTIFIED EP, FOR3VER is a restyling of an older track he initially produced in 2014. The new coat of paint has done it wonders, with a fantastic blend of melody and sound design making this a pretty awesome piece. Something about the sections with the melodic chord progression interspersed with heavy sounds just gets me, so make sure to check it out if you’re up for that!

‘Shy – Distant Dreams | Melodic Dubstep

Feels like it’s been a while since I heard something from ‘Shy, or maybe just a while since I wrote a post about their music. Regardless, I’m loving this new song that puts both melodic and chill elements together in a dubstep track and tops it off with vocal splices from So Many Wonders. Perhaps those vocals are overused, but it’s only because they work well in so many situations…

Nicolas Dominique – Lost Symphony | Ambient

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 5 December 2016.

Some more new music from Nicolas Dominique with something a little more pared down from his usual releases. Throughout the track is some very well composed cello which takes center stage, playing some haunting melodies. The track is otherwise held together by a variety of electronic sounds that help to create an ambient and mysterious feel to the whole track.

Synthis – Crash To Pieces | Future

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 3 December 2016.

Consistently high quality and beautifully produced, new Synthis releases are always something I look forward to eagerly, so it’s great to see a new piece from him! The instrumental for this track is a lot more relaxed than some of his other works, with a bit of a trap/future bass feel to it, and it works wonderfully in collaboration with some wonderfully sung vocals. The lyrics themselves are also quite thoughtful, so it’s worth paying attention to them whilst you listen. Make sure to check it out!

Filly in the Box – Into the Rain | Neurofunk

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 6 December 2016.

A new neuro track from Filly in the Box, but this one is a little different than most of the recent ones he’s released, with a more chill vibe to it. This is accentuated by the expert use of some Fluttershy vocal samples, and the sense of space given by some of the sounds in the track is really nice to hear. It feels both empty and full at the same time, which creates a pretty nice feel to the track. Definitely worth checking out if you want some chill neuro.

Reverbrony – Falling Upwards | Progressive Rock

While it still keeps that progressive element (no, not that Progressive Element) found in his songs, Reverbrony’s latest track takes a somewhat lighter approach to its soundscape. Less chunky guitar, more melodically diverse bass lines. Whether or not you prefer it to his heavier work, it’s always great to see some diversity and hear a bit of experimentation!

NeoN – Melancholy | Deep House

Sometimes simple, repetitive melodies work best when it comes to deep house. After all, repetition is often a key part of relaxation. Twist this is with a hint of sadness and you have NeoN latest track, a spiritual successor to Summer Nights.

The Cosine Pitchshifterz & Royalpony – Fanfiction | Rawstyle

Here’s a (rhetorical) question. Which is more important, the end result of a song and the enjoyment it brings to fans, or the authenticity of the work put into it? In this case we’re going with the former, as although this track from TCP and Royalpony heavily samples Radical Redemption & D Sturb’s ‘Kill Me‘, the end result is (partially) transformed into a new idea.

It’s a tricky issue to deal with, with no answer set in stone. For now we’ll just try to enjoy the music though.

Elias Frost – Welcome to Pegasopolis | Orchestral

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 5 December 2016

A bit of a change from the metal and dark orchestral pieces he normally puts out, Elias shows his lighter side here with a strong uplifting orchestral piece meant to act as a sort of anthem for the pegasus race. I do quite like Elias’ orchestral works and this one is no different with a strong mix of instrumentals from trumpet-like sounds to crisp strings and some marching-style percussive elements as well. Definitely worth a listen if you want to celebrate the power of the pegasus!

GROskAr – Banned Magics | Dubstep

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 4 December 2016

GROskAr is one of the most consistent designers of heavy stuff in the fandom, so it’s cool to see some more new music from him! This one cuts to the chase pretty quickly, with a 30 second build up giving way to a heavy drop full of harsh bass sounds. The break in the middle manages to hold up some tension and make sure you don’t relax before some vocal chops help differentiate the second drop from the first really well. Definitely worth checking out if you want some heavy dubstep!
