Well now, Hoofy just keeps on improving his production, eh? Always fond of retro aesthetics, he went totally synthwave with this one. He and Dreamtech’s production, especially during the drop, is lush and features some gorgeous chords. However, Haymaker really steals the show here. His delivery is sublime as always and conveys the somber tone of the song excellently (something he’s shown he’s great at on the legendary Luna’s Ruse). Ditherer – Love Trouble (feat. Doodled) (TCB Remix) | Hybrid Trap
WARNING: NSFW LYRICS Where to even begin with this one. I’ve been at Bronycon showing this song to some very prominent figures in horse music, and they all had the same dropped jaw when they heard this. The beginning of this remix has is reminiscent of a Migos song, then shifts to something very Middle Eastern-influenced (something I personally have missed in trap music). Ditherer has proven himself to be the fandom’s premiere lyricist after only a few months and it shows here. He spits multis on multis, and the verse, like most of his music, feels very deliberate. And what’s he rapping about? Horse poon. Same goes for Doodled, who starts his verse off with some outrageous Auto-Tune and transitions to a highly catchy refrain. That hook immediately leads to the awe-inspiring drop, proving TCB still is one of the most underrated fandom musicians to ever do it. Doodled is no slouch on the mic either, however. His cool delivery and flow is effortless and also has some very intriguing rhyme schemes throughout his verse. A song for true flank lovers only.
Daniel Ingram – Make A Wish (Silvertune & John Kenza Remix) | Hands Up
You may have already heard this one if you were at Kenza’s incredible sets at Everfree Northwest or High Roller Pony Con this year, but if not, you’re really in for a treat. One of Kenza’s specialties, his intensely happy hands up (uhh, hooves up, anypony?) music lends itself amazingly to any party setting (fitting considering the song it’s remixing). I hadn’t heard of Silvertune before, but I’m definitely going to be exploring his hands up music after this. Personally, I think the dialogue between the verses fit like a glove here, which was a nice touch. As is to be expected with Kenza’s music, the mix is pristine and everything, from Pinkie’s vocals to the synths in the drop, sounds totally crisp. Not a lot of love for hands up is usually shown in the fandom, so if you’re into the genre, you’re going to love this one. Let’s party!
Foozogz – New Journey | Happy Hardcore
The great Foozogz returns yet again! All the staples of his music are present on this wonderful new track: 170 bpm, frantic synths, an infectiously happy vibe, and some divine pony vocal chops during the switch-up! Clearly the song is quite emotional to him, the title perhaps signifying a fresh start (G5 anypony?). Definitely one to check out if you enjoy Fooz’s other music.
The Ponytones – Horse of the Rising Sun (The Animals ponified) | Rock
The next Ponytones ponification is here! Keeping with the 60s theme, “Horse of the Rising Sun” parodies (specifically) the famous Animals cover of Bob Dylan’s original, “House of the Rising Sun.” The lyrics by iRhymeTheSongs are about Celestia, as you may have guessed from the title, and are handled very well. With some immaculate drumming and fiery vocals from Wootmaster, crisp guitar and bass tones from The Sound Guy, and some very sharp organ playing by Riccardo C, this Celestia-focused parody is quite well-produced and should be a treat for anyone, even those who haven’t heard the original.
Ditherer & MC-Arch- Another Inch Away | Rap / Hip Hop
Hey y’all, trapstar extraordinaire J. Free here. Only partially kidding, but I’m very honored to say I am now part of Horse Music Herald’s guest writing staff. Hope to bring you some awesome horse tunes in future posts!
For my first writeup, I’ll be sticking in my comfort zone with a rap song, this time from the prolific MC-Arch and the youngblood Ditherer. Ditherer only just started releasing fandom music and his new album, which this song appears on, is a whopping 40 tracks long. The gloomy Shiloh Dynasty-sampling beat services the rapping quite well on this song. Ditherer raps, from a detached POV, of a man who just can’t seem to let go of a fictional girl (safe to assume it’s a pony!) and longs for a real-life version of her. The verse has a pretty amusing Ticket Master reference, too! Ditherer’s use of internal and multisyllabic rhymes and his great imagery are on full display in this verse.
MC-Arch’s verse, on the other hand, while still as emotional as Ditherer’s and echoing similar sentiments to the first verse’s protagonist, is much more personal and much less vague as to the identity of the pony. It’s not surprising to find it’s about Fluttershy, but this is the first time Arch has ever sounded so impassioned (especially in the second half of his verse) and vulnerable rapping about his love for her and what he feels whenever she’s on his mind. Arch’s distinct stream-of-consciousness-type flow along with his fiery delivery are the real stars here.
If you’re into emotional raps and can relate to having a real adoration for your favorite pony, there is definitely something to like here!
