Horse Music Hotspot – March 2018

HMHotstpot main art

March was a great month for compilation albums, with a brand new major Ponies At Dawn album, a new volume of Horse Music Central music, and a winter-themed EP curated by Cider Party. With so many single releases from other artists too, we’ve had a great variety to choose from this month!

Voting still open for the Top Pony Songs of March 2018!

There’s still a couple of days left to vote in the monthly community faves. Remember that there were plenty of songs released from compilation albums such as P@D, HMC and Cider Party, and of course many great singles released by a variety of artists. Check out Günz’s playlist for a range of selections!

[HMC] Totalspark & Zero Chaotic – Nemesis | Drumstep

Another banger from the latest Horse Music Central album, this track sees Totalspark, who dabbles in all kinds of electronica, join forces with Zero Chaotic, who originally came up with the basis for this track. The song flows instantly and seamlessly between dark, orchestrated parts and heavy drumstep breakdowns with full force.

Nicolas Dominique – Friendly Monsters and Fascinating Places EP | Chillout

Nicolas is a master of the chillout and ambient genres, music that just puts you into a trance throughout the entire thing. And now he’s compiled an entire EP of songs fitting that bill, all themed around the idea of exploring weird and wonderful parts of Equestria…or an alternate version of it…where cheese rolls down hills and unicorns swim through lakes with pillows on their heads. Perhaps it’s best not to think about it too hard…

Friendly Monsters and Fascinating Places is available to download for free on Nicolas’ Bandcamp.

UndreamedPanic ft. Namii – Running Out Of Days (AnNy Tr3e Remix) | Hardstyle

I’ve always said that I’m not a huge fan of hardstyle, but perhaps I was simply listening to the wrong kind. This remix of Panic and Namii’s track from Rebirth feels like more of a dubstep or future bass song at first, with some great sounding plucks, but then drops into this great hardstyle beat that has a good balance of heavy and melodic elements to it. AnNy Tr3e’s done a great job with this one!

(A very belated) Horse Music Hotspot – February 2018 (the “We’re Sorry It’s So Late” edition)

HMHotstpot main art

It is (or rather was) the 2nd anniversary of the Horse Music Hotspot this February, and what better way to celebrate than to release the episode extremely late? I can only apologise for the delay, multiple issues from technical difficulties to IRL problems caused it, but better late than never!

[P@D] Protocat & Natus – Worthy (RoomVR Remix) | Liquid Drum & Bass

I simply ADORE this kind of Drum & Bass. RoomVR just consistently makes incredible liquid dnb tracks that are smooth, chill and quite frankly in my opinion, downright beautiful. Okay, I admit it probably helps that Protocat and Natus’ original version of this song was already stunning, but RoomVR has still manages to transform it while keeping the same emotion of the original. And it’s a great debut to Room’s own YouTube channel too! Another of my favourites from Rebirth, without a doubt.

Vylet Pony – Destiny Station | Hip-Hop

👏 VYLET’S 👏 GOT 👏 A 👏 NEW 👏 ALBUM 👏 and this is one of the first songs released from it. The album “is a story about two witch ponies in somewhat of an alternate Universe from the canon MLP storyline”. Stylistically speaking, it seems to be a culmination of sorts of the Indie Pop and Lo-Fi paths that Vylet’s been moving along these past few months. So pretty much cute, chill, and extremely pleasant to listen to. Check out Destiny Station and if you like it, try out the whole album too!

[P@D] Homage – Free (Acoustic Version) [feat. SDreamExplorerS, Luck Rock, DoTheDaringDew, StealingShad3z, DaWillstanator & ChordCatcher] | Acoustic

Holy moly collaberoni! This song originally came from another Ponies At Dawn album, Guardians, as an electro-pop piece inspired by the likes of Glaze and the whole kinda Rainbow Factory universe he created. Now, with the help of some friends, it’s been completely transformed into a softer acoustic piece with a ton of vocal harmonies, some sax (always need more sax!) and even an funky little organ solo in the middle. This has to be one of my favourites from Rebirth, great job by everyone involved!
