Rusty’s already a very experimental musician, but this song goes a little deeper and a little weirder into that sort of production technique. The general feel of the song makes me think it could fit in to some kind of horror musical, but it’s Rusty’s sampling techniques that bring out the experimentation. The middle section of the song also breaks down a lot of convention and adds another different, eerier sound to the song.
Fascinatin – Ways We Choose | Synthpop
Oh hey, new musician! Fascinatin here has made a neat synthpop track with some great melodic elements and nice big chords. There’s some room for improvement, but it’s a really promising start for a new musician to make something as good as this!
[Spark] Moon Flame – Bye Bye Fluttershy | Adult Contemporary / Blues
An amazing feature on MyLittleMusics’ album Spark:Magic done by Moon Flame. A really warm ballad with really awesome instrumentation! The vocals and the lyrics are also really well performed as with the “yay” samples! It’s amazing that it got featured on ROCK FARM! Download the “Magic” album on Spark bandcamp!
[P@D] Lovestruck Brony – Sleepless | Synthwave
NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 20 April 2018.
Synthwave stuff is definitely an aesthetic that’s been pretty big on the internet for a while now, so it’s cool to see some HOME-style stuff pop up from a pony musician! Big, nostalgic chords, awesome use of a vocal sample hook, glittering arpeggios and some super funky basslines help to make this an insanely catchy tune from Lovestruck. Not to mention the synth solos in the second half!
Dr. Somepony – Protagonist | Metal
He’s back! Dr. Somepony’s first upload in over a year focuses on Tempest Shadow, and is a sort of progressive piece. The song constantly switches up the beat, the riffs, even the tempo, all while keeping a dark yet energetic feel, fitting for the character it represents.
Rarity Advocate – Pavane for a Grey Mare | Piano
Rarity Advocate’s little piece for Tavi here is a solemn and mellow duet for piano and, of course, cello. It goes through various stages, the different sounds of despair broken up by a brief moment of happiness halfway through, before the dark, deep bass notes of the piano toll loudly. So yeah, kinda sad.
[P@D] Paloris & Whirly Tail – Feeling Free | Future Bass
Here is another top-notch song from the most recent Ponies at Dawn compilation album. Paloris and Whirly Tail combined to create a track that has smooth, chilled-out sections, bouncy drop phrases, great syncopation, and pinkie pie chops placed so perfectly that you can’t help but smile. The transitions are seamless and the different sections compliment each other beautifully, keeping the track fun and interesting.
EnergyTone ft. FritzyBeat & ElectroBlitz – Hearts Strong As Horses (covering Daniel Ingram) | Pop-Punk
Here’s an awesome show cover from a very talented trio of musicians! EnergyTone recruited FritzyBeat and ElectroBlitz to be in his Cutie Mark Crusader group for this high-octane version of Hearts as Strong as Horses. All three do a great job vocally and make the track feel very fitting for three guys covering the parts. The distorted guitars and rock drums give a lot of power to the song and make it stylistically amazing and energetic!
Jyc Row – Beauty | Orchestral
Continuing his theme of orchestral tunes for the six legendary pillars, Jyc Row introduces us to his tribute for Mistmane. Learning some new tricks in instrumentation and composition, Jyc Row gives us a nice change of pace with an Asian-themed score, using several instruments indigenous to the continent. The track begins with a very full sound, despite only using a few instruments, then builds into a grandiose, epic soundtrack for the most generous of the pillars. All of the characteristics of a typical JR score are there too, reminding us all why he is one of the premier producers in our music fandom!
Ataraxia – Talisman | Piano
I never thought a simple piano movement could be so moving, yet Ataraxia’s abstract concept mixed with a phenomenal composition makes Talisman a piece of perfection. Written as a score to the inner fascinations of a mare’s mind, the tune is whimsical and light, like her dreams. As her reverie becomes volatile, so too does the score, before finally resolving to the soft beauty of the protagonist standing face-to-face with the crystal heart. Be sure to follow the poetic description of the song as you lose yourself in the aural embrace, and check out Ataraxia’s full EP, skies which includes this track!
