Maressey – I Want the One I Can’t Have | Indie

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 8 January 2017.

A new track from Maressey, I Want The One I Can’t Have features vocals from Zatslol and a strong instrumental from Johnny Mare. Whilst this kind of thing is always a bit of a touchy subject, I feel like this track approaches the subject matter pretty tastefully and with great production value, Zatslol’s vocals especially shine strongly in this track.

ForeverFreest – I Don’t Complain (covering Luna Jax) | Acoustic

Continuing the chill train from earlier, here’s a nice little acoustic cover of Luna Jax’s hit I Don’t Complain. Lovely soft piano and drums accompany an acoustic guitar and Freest’s great voice in this wonderfully stripped-back piece, a pleasure to listen to!

Sarah P. – The Magic Inside (covering Daniel Ingram) | Indie Pop

A rather different style of cover now – something which might be a bit hit or miss but still probably worth sharing. The latest release on A Little Bit for Charity’s YouTube channel, this cover of The Magic Inside has a rather unique vocal style, with very gentle accompanying instruments and almost a Christmas music vibe to it, since it’s filled with lots of percussive bells. Check it out if that sounds like your kind of thing.

Denz Xavier & Stormblaze – The Starlight Glimmer Experience | Parody

Red Dwarf fans, rejoice! Admittedly, I’ve never seen Red Dward so I didn’t get the joke, but still, it’s a deliberately fun little song that may or may not bring trigger memories of cheap amusement parks…

Maressey – There is a Light That Never Goes Out | Indie

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 22 December 2016.

One of the coolest fandom music projects is back! Maressey is an ambitious project that aims to produce high quality pony-focused tributes to The Smiths. They’ve just released their 4th album, The Brony Album, which focuses on a lot of fandom related things, such as EQD, Bronycon, Rule 34 and Cosplay. This track, featuring amazing vocals from AdamTh3Walker, a strong instrumental from Johnny Mare and mixing from project-head Freewave, deals with the after effects of the eventual ending on the show, whenever it may be. Make sure to check it out for a really strongly produced track about a poignant topic of conversation.

Superturtle – Light Of Your Cutie Mark (covering Daniel Ingram) | Indie Rock

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 14 December 2016.

This is another new track released from the ‘A Little Bit For Charity’ project, and it’s always awesome to hear the unique ways that the professional indie artists enlisted by the project manage to turn the show songs into a style of their own. This time around a group called Superturtle have given their take on the song Light Of Your Cutie Mark. Make sure to check it out below if indie style rock beats are your thing! This one definitely has a bit more of an old school vibe to it.

Francis Vace – Everfree EP | Rock

Not for the first time, Francis Vace has made a nice little EP of cover songs, in a variety of his favourite styles. Last year he performed his favourites from the 3rd Equestria Girls movie, and now he’s taken on the 4th – Legend of Everfree. 4 songs from the film ranging in genre from punk to reggae, and of course with a bit of his signature ska sound twisted in here and there. If you’re a fan of his original work, you’re sure to enjoy his take on these songs too. And best of all, you can download it entirely for free from his bandcamp page!
