Boyd, Confalone, & Bustamante – Photo Booth [Ice Angel Remix] | Progressive House
Ice Angel’s keeping the love for Equestria Girls alive with an absolutely delightful remix of “Photo Booth” released earlier this year. The track starts by mellowing out the bass line, adding soft guitar and an ever so subtle touch of mallet-like synths to make a sparkling texture. But don’t get too used to that instrumentation–the chorus is dominated with big synth arpeggios and even a cow bell thrown in for fun! It switches things up later on by swapping the house beat with a drum and bass groove. Overall, the song’s is upbeat and euphoric, a lovely banger sure to raise your spirits!
SpinScissor – Father of Forever | Experimental
Like its name suggests, “Father of Forever” by SpinScissor strikes a very eternal and introspective vibe. It’s an experimental electronic track which fully explores a variety of unique sounds, with glitches, harsh synths, and crazy modulations. At times, it sounds like a house track with its strong kick and snare click, and this contrasts the existential musings of the lyrics. Spin’s smooth vocals decorate the track, both in the foreground but also in the background, soaked with delay, reverb, and panning automation to build up its eerie texture. There’s also a spoken word section which breaks down the broken relationship between Sweetie Bot and her maker.
This is only the first track of SpinScissor’s Sweetie Bot themed EP which released this year, so make sure to check that out for more sound design goodness!
Tw3Lv3 ft. Koa, MC-Arch, Drummershy – One Small Thing (Royalpony Remix) | Hardcore
Earlier this year, Royalpony released a hardcore remix of one of the modern classics: “One Small Thing” by Tw3Lv3 and company. His take begins with rapid synth arpeggios and the mellowest of sub basses, gradually building in intensity with the kick, snare and Koa’s gorgeous vocals. But, right as the track prepares to land its big drop, RP throws in a twist and has the entire instrumental drop out before swinging back into the groove. MC-Arch’s rap segment is also nicely done with a fresh beat, and it’s overall a wonderful and fresh take on the tune.
rawrity – spin | pop
It’s time to get cider-tipsy and take rawrity’s newest single for a “spin”. Consisting of all the elements we’ve come to know rawrity’s hits for, “spin” makes great use of simple and catchy melodies, accentuating pony chops, and the chill yet emotional vibe that defines her style. rawrity’s displays some creative rhymes in the lyrics as she describes the disorientation that comes from deep infatuation that are sure to make you spin!
RedSpark – Puppetmaster | Hybrid Orchestral
If there’s one thing that I absolutely adore, it’s when musicians mix electronic and orchestral elements for their song, like a Romeo & Juliet in music. And if there is anyone whom I’ve seen consistently produce bangers with this forbidden mix of elements, it’s RedSpark. Keeping a consistent, electronic-type bassline throughout the song, this song has all the energy that you’d expect for a typical electronic song, but it is the orchestral break that translate into a melody after the rise that keeps me listening. Keep doing what you do RedSpark!
Daniel Ingram – Hearts As Strong As Horses (Chang31ing Remix) | Drum & Bass
“Hearts Strong as Horses” has always been one of those staple songs from FiM that was deliberately crafted differently by Daniel Ingram; it was the first song of Season Four and the first song to break such a long hiatus, so it had a lot of hype riding on it. I’m glad that over ten years later, it is still being remixed, and by one of the strongest remixers currently active in the fandom. Going into this remix, I thought it would be a subtle remix with elements of DnB and some slightly increased energy with the faster tempo as hinted at in the first moments of the song, but that was quickly squashed at the first drop. Such intensity and distortion that screams that this different from the other remixes of the song while not compromising what made this song special to begin with. Oh, and the added “oof’s” that were ripped straight from Super Mario 64 was a nice touch that brought a smile to my face.
Sofia Wylie – Iconic (Tune Twister Remix) | UK Hardcore
Are you ready for the Bridlewoodstock after rave? Tune Twister sure is with this banging UK hardcore remix of “Iconic” from G5. It stays to the original song, extending it with an absolutely ferocious bass line and stronger kick. Ruby Jubilee’s voice (sung by Sofia Wylie) stands out with additional clarity, allowing you to hear her voice’s lower register form an exquisitely beautiful harmony! The track is an absolute bop and will make for a great time on any dance floor.
Eurobeat Brony – Discord (Koron Korak Remix) | Dark Synth
Eurobeat Brony‘s Discord still to this day is one of the most well known songs that ever was produced by our fandom, attested by the numerous count of excellent remixes released to this day, with this adaption by Koron Korak adding another magnificent example. Moving away from the original eurobeat style to dark synth, this adaption has a more sinister, dark, and rocky tone to it, replacing the more joyful sound of the original with a vibe that resembles the Lord of Chaos in his first appearance perfectly! It’s further emphasized by the excellent art of Discord chosen for the video. If you enjoyed the original, and especially the 2019 version, this remix will get into your favorites easily!
