Nyancat380 is back again, this time experimenting with a genre we don’t get enough of in this great fandom of ours: jazz! Specifically, Latin jazz. This dark, smooth Latin piece incorporates a muted bass, a collage of brass instruments, and of course, tons of Latin percussion. The song ends with overwhelmingly jazzy solos from the piece’s piano and brass elements.
Orchestral
Ocean Melody – March of the Tides | Lyre Solo
It’s always a treat when Ocean Melody uploads. March of the Tides is their second song based on the Background Pony fanfic, and like Darkness Sonata, it focuses just on the lyre to create a song. A lead melody plays over a soft arpeggio, sounding melancholic and brooding as it is said to be Lyra’s own spin on a song called Sunset Bolero. Short, but bittersweet.
JP Hyper & N4ghtwolf – The Runekeepers | Epic Orchestral
JP Hyper collabed with N4ghtwolf to write a theme song for a fanfic they wrote, and what an epic track it is! It sure is indicative of the kind of epicness you can expect from the story, with those choirs and that progression of 9 minutes of Orchestral greatness that is already an adventure in itself!
Harmonic Six – Flutterdreams | Orchestral
I just love songs representing a character like this, you can feel how the sound and melodies are portraying the pony, and what thoughts the musician had while composing the piece! The flute is definitely very fitting for Fluttershy, and these Flutterdreams sound so mellow and comfy, just like the kind of world that she would imagine, filled with kindness!
James Kelly, SkyBolt & Inky Notebook – Daunting Future (Fallout Equestria Dead Tree Outro Theme) | Soundtrack
Multi-media fan works are always so awesome, especially when they’re also group collabs with friends! For the series of audiobooks/dramas “Fallout Equestria Dead Tree” on the channel, Shotgun Angel Productions released this outro song that gathers the vocal talents of SkyBolt and Inky Notebook from the Traveling Pony Museum, as well as the compositional prowess of James Kelly of East Corp Productions! Everypony coming together to create fan works like these makes me so happy!!
m2the3rd – Belong (feat. Koron Korak) | Soft Rock
Remember Terramar from Surf And/Or Turf? m2the3rd’s latest song is about his struggle of choosing which land and parent to live in. The dry land with his father, or the wet underworld with his mother? The soft sounds of water can be heard behind the soft music, mainly consisting of his truly melancholy voice, soft piano keys and violin, the latter of which was provided by the multi-talented Koron Korak. There’s a noticable 80s influence here, from the production to the vocals. I’m sure some of us have gone through a similar situation at some point in our lives.
[ASOS] Heartsong – Cloudsbane | Soundtrack
Heartsong returns to A State of Sugar with track 23 as well as Brownie‘s longest track clocking in at nearly 8 minutes, Cloudsbane! The soundtrack vibes are real with this one, being driven by ominous orchestral instruments and unique percussion that really gives the song an old-timey feeling. Halfway through the track, the optimistic mood suddenly drops to a halt as a dark string fades in alongside the sound of thunder in the background, indicating impending danger. However, it keeps building up to a satisfying conclusion, choirs and powerful percussion abound. This strong piece was actually inspired by a fanfiction entitled Magisight, which was written by their friend PsychicKid. Something like that only adds to how great this piece is!
[ASOS] Age of Vinyl & Hay Tea – Calm Of The Sky (Koron Korak Remix) | Drum & Bass
For a song titled Calm Of The Sky, this sure is pretty cathartic and fast-paced. Track 21 from A State of Sugar: Brownie is Koron Korak’s remix of the Age of Vinyl and Hay Tea original! His take is an all-out beautiful piece that keeps the DnB feel of the original while putting an emphasis on the orchestral strings that shine through. Alongside the heavy bass and fast drums are heavenly choirs and bell sounds complete with orchestral string riffs. Just another amazing track in the ASOS and Koron catalogue!
Harmonic Six – Under Her Sun | Orchestral
Harmonic Six returns with their first original of the year, Under Her Sun! It’s an beautiful and emotional orchestral piece that fits her character very well, sounding as if she’s making a grand entrance, possibly for the last time before her retirement. The soft string tones in this track will definitely warm you up if you’re feeling cold.
Branrich VanIster – Bacon and The Siren | Jazz/Lounge
Branrich VanIster returns with more unique instrumental music. Bacon and The Siren is a slow, jazzy piece that sounds like it could’ve come out of the 80s. Throughout the song, the sound of vinyl noise can be heard while the song is primarily lead by a piano and saxophone which are said to represent Sunset Shimmer and Adagio Dazzle, respectively. I can just imagine myself sitting back in a living room with the curtains closed and candles lit, and having the two by my side with this one!
