Nightmare Night is over, yet the scares never end. Track 4 from Music for the Headless Horse III, Cynifree showcases their electronic wizardry with a creepy midtempo track based on Story of the Blanks! Joined by the low whirling bass is a creepy synthline that just screams “danger”, representing the game’s town full of blank flanks perfectly. The perfect soundtrack to running away from a dark forest.

[PVCF] PrinceWhateverer & Jyc Row – Nightmare Night (Covering Glaze & Mic The Microphone) (2019) | Symphonic Metal
This brings a smile to my face. Prince & Jyc came together for this redux of the cult classic Nightmare Night and has vastly improved from the original cover back in 2011! Jyc’s orchestral and choir elements intertwined with Prince’s vocals and skill on the guitar go hand and hand for this piece with powerful chords, ominous bravado and that sweet, sweet melody, this one is quite a treat!
(even if its over a month late but you didn’t hear that from me)
This song is available as part of Ponyville Ciderfest’s 2019 Official Convention Album.
Feryl DeMarco – When Nothing Matters | Downtempo
Feryl DeMarco just keeps pumping tracks out! This one oozes electronic goodness, like it was plucked straight out of a movie or game soundtrack. The drums are powerful yet not overbearing and gives all the other elements – such as the soft and brooding synths and plenty of glitches to go around – to breathe. With the rate at which DeMarco’s uploading and creating new music, I think we can expect nothing but greatness in 2020!
Jyc Row & Elias Frost – The Demon Child | Orchestral
Third track of Jyc Row’s Legion EP has been uploaded and stands out by its more devious and fright inducing nature. This time he partnered with fellow part-time orchestral producer Elias Frost, and indeed their styles blend admirably. A creative and slick orchestration is backed up by glitched out and distorted sounds. The level of professionalism throughout, in every layer of the piece, makes it sound as if coming out straight from the soundtrack of a horror film starring the utterly cunning Cozy Glow as the main villain.
Vylet Pony – The Magic Show | Pop
We’ve got ourselves a treat here. Track 19 from the upcoming Queen of Misfits is a 10 minute long three-part pop track revolved around Trixie’s desire to be the center of attention, while also hiding her anxieties behind a metaphorical mask. On Your Knees is laid-back and features soft, glitzy synths alongside a simple yet powerful beat and Vylet’s beautiful voice. After fading out, the song transitions into an 80s inspired interlude with a piano and string combination, before jumping into The Moment, an uptempo segment reminiscent of early-mid 2000s trance. Seamlessly transitioning into the final segment, Thrill of the Fight, we hear more of Vylet’s typical style that comes full circle with its lyrical themes, borrowing the hook from On Your Knees and closing out with a synth solo and the familiar piano and string combo from earlier before fading out naturally. Queen of Misfits comes out on Hearth’s Warming Day, so be on the look out!
MelodyBrony – The King (2020) (feat. PrinceWhateverer, Drummershy, KriZzZ and Luck Rock) | Progressive Rock
Get stacked ‘cuz you know the king is back…
MelodyBrony‘s grand debut song from April of this year is back with a fresh coat of paint. As is the case with the original, PrinceWhateverer takes lead vocals, with the rhythm section consisting of Drummershy and Luck Rock, as well as KriZzZ’s brilliant keyboard chops. If you’re familiar with the original then this should be no surprise to you. MelodyBrony also has an album in the works, set to be released on December 21st, so keep an eye out!
[P@D] Single Purpose – I Have To | Drum & Bass
Fast and trippy? You bet. Track 61 from Ponies at Dawn: Eternal sees a fast-paced yet chilled out drum ‘n’ bass track from the great Single Purpose. Twilight’s singing voice from Magical Mystery Cure is the song’s prominent sample, fitting perfectly alongside the beautiful synths and drums. Sit back, close your eyes and let the entrancing music carry you away!
Tw3Lv3 – My Love Will Give You Strength | Lo-fi
A new gem from Tw3Lv3’s album Release has been … released, incidentally serving as ponyfication of Chet Baker’s cover of I fall in love too easily. By including Cadance’s line from S02E26 A Canterlot Wedding which the title bears, the original meaning changes and by giving it a lo-fi spin so does the genre. Keeping jazzy inspirations and adding a delicate bassline works wonders as both genres find roots in blues, and will make you want to chillax while pondering about the mysteries of love.
Djohn Mema & SlightlyAmiss – From Dreams to Nightmares | Metalcore
The dream team of Djohn Mema and SlightlyAmiss is back once again with an instrumental, finally being released after 2 years on the backburner. Inspired by the princess of the night herself, the song is split into two halves, a relatively peaceful yet heavy section with a lead riff that takes the forefront, before transitioning into the second half, a much more mournful feeling segment before ending with a string and piano combo that goes back to being calm. You don’t always need words to tell a story, and songs like this show why.
[P@D] Hay Tea & Tripon – Trail Of Shade | Neurofunk
While the two musicians have been known to work in conjunction on various projects for quite some time, this is their first actual collab. Released as part of Ponies at Dawn Eternal, Hay Tea and Tripon‘s intricate track narrates a story set in a cyberpunk Manehattan. The ominous horns create a nightmarish atmosphere but are simultaneously satisfying, and the heavy use of reverb gives them the feel of being heard in dark empty streets amidst tall sky scrapers. The richness and complexity of the drum pattern makes it sound ever faster-paced and gives a sense of tension, or even panic. Don’t let it catch you.
