Prince Whateverer – Reinvent | Album | Metal

New Prince Whateverer album? New Prince Whateverer album! It’s been 3 years since his debut (mini-)album, Rediscover, and after having built up a collection of single YouTube releases since then, he has recently finished Reinvent (I’m noticing a pattern here with the names). Catch the full writeup, track-by-track, of this glorious 16-track LP after the break…

MC-Arch – Rise (My Past is Not Today) | Rap / Hip-Hop

I need to find a new way to say this instead of repeating myself every time, but I honestly love that MC-Arch’s lyrics always have such a influence on them from who he is as a person, and that they come straight from the heart. While there’s still room for improvement in terms of production, music like this still deserves its place on this site, nice work MC-Arch!

Boards of Equestria – Music Has the Right to Pony | Album | Electronic / Hip-Hop

A new album from one of Technickel Pony’s aliases (you may remember Beats and Pieces), whose name is in tribute to the Scottish electronic duo, Boards of Canada. The album is mostly made up of relatively short pieces, and keeps to a sort of chill electronic / hip-hop style which runs throughout the entire album.

Technickel’s production style seems to have become a bit more standardised in this album compared to Beats and Pieces (although I do still hear some Sytrus presets in there ;P). While I’m unfortunately unable to do a full album review, I’d love to recommend a couple of tracks in particular. Track 7, Night Time World (ft. donglekumquat) gives a great sort of spacey feel with both the vocals and the lead synths. The following track, Dusk Light, a collaboration with Seventh Element, also has some great instrumentation and has a very strong trip-hop vibe to it.

Again, apologies for the lack of full review, but if you like chill electronica and hip-hop, this is definitely the sort of thing you should check out!

Direct Current – Nimbostratus | Ambient

Wake up. Stretch your wings. Take flight.

The more I try to make ambient and chillout music myself, the more I become envious of those who do it so well, such as Direct Current. I really enjoyed this one, and not just because it’s about master race pegasi; the simple melodies combine together very nicely and the strings add new level of depth to it.

Dynamite Grizzly – No Worries | Techno

The queen of techno returns with a surprisingly more chill track than usual. Taking a more downtempo beat and featuring strings and plenty of keyboard sounds, this arguably fits better among chillout than techno! Dig into this and feel the zen with Snails…or something along those lines…

PVNK – Horse Party | Drum & Bass

I~ think this is pretty cool. We covered this back when PVNK’s Internal Errors EP was released – it’s a fun piece that keeps your standard dnb break pattern and focus mostly on plucked basses than the rolling sounds you might often see in drum & bass.

Budzy – Surprise Surprise (GROskAr Remix) | Dubstep

A solid production, as I’ve come to pretty much always expect, from GROskAr, as he remixes Budzy’s Lycan Dese Beats album feature. It doesn’t tend to deviate much from the pattern of the original, so while it’s perhaps not my favourite from him, it’s still worth checking out.

Note: Since the original video got deleted, you may find its original audio backed up as a MP3 file here.

ArcticSkies – Summer Fun | Breakbeat

As summer draws us to a close for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, and many people head back to school or work, take a moment to check out this uplifting little piece from ArcticSkies. It kinda enfuses breakbeat with some more chill vibes and has a general happy vibe going on, pretty nice stuff!

Daniel Ingram – Raise This Barn (Sayonara Maxwell & MiatriSs Remix) | Electro

Racist barn, racist barn. Let’s go back in time to the season 3 episode Apple Family Reunion. Take  the episode’s upbeat country/bluegrass song and switch it for bouncy, heavy electronic beats and you end up with this. Reminiscent of some of uThunder’s work, Sayonara Maxwell and MiatriSs’ remix sure it catchy.

A Symphony Of Two – Bastion | Orchestral

A Symphony Of Two continue to consistently and tegularly produce some excellent orchestral pieces, and improve with each new song they make. Have this one about Twilight acting as defender of Equestria, or something along those lines (the openness to interpretation is one of the things I love about these kind of pieces!)
