[ETC] Payyn – Hoof Crushed by a Mallet Under the Ponyville Floor (feat. Gatekeeper) | Speedcore

Part of COREQUESTRIA Vol. 1: Ponyville, this track is a speedcore banger in two parts. Payyn has numerous aliases, each with their own character and genres attached to it, here this is Gatekeeper. The first section is the speedcore one with interesting vocals and solid kick work and the second part is centered around a nice sample and a lot of saturation. Don’t forget to check out their fascinating set at Burning Mare II.

Tw3Lv3 – Solitude | Drum & Bass / Hip-Hop

This is certainly a unique track! This song, from Tw3Lv3’s recent album Fluid, has an interesting mix of Drum ‘n Bass, hip/hop, and electronic music, that makes the track feel both energetic and chill. There’s also a level of consistency in this track, and the speed of the music is never slowed, save for the hip/hop bits at the beginning, middle, and end. Overall, this is a fun and catchy track!

JP Hyper – The Runekeepers (EDM Mix) | Techno

JP Hyper remixed an epic orchestral collab with N4ghtwolf that served as the theme of JP Hyper’s fanfiction Starlight and the Runekeepers (German original version here, ongoing English translation here). Using similar melodies, JP Hyper switched up the genre drastically, but kept many of the orchestral elements that made the original epic. Choirs and strings take turns with buzzing synths and an entrancing kick making for an enthralling experience.

Direct Current – House Canary | Indie Electronic

House Canary was released in March of this year in Direct Current’s Horse Stuff 2(020) album. In it, he sings about Diamond Tiara and the values of the bourgeoisie enforced upon her by her parents. However, it also speaks of oppression and freedom and how the former can disguise as the latter as well as the resentment borne by a part of the youth toward the generations that precede it. Sung with substantial amounts of vocal effects (as with most of Direct Currents’s songs featuring vocals), powerful verses go with an instrumental equally as gratifying. Synths (some arpeggiated, some being pads and some in between) play lovely melodies, and quite memorable too. Do not forget to check out his DustCars project.

Jess Furman – Pony Life (When Hooves Meet Face Cover) | Metal

When Hooves Meet Face (have I seen him somewhere?) has covered the most metal theme in the entire franchise – the Pony Life theme song. Accompanied by a funny and well-produced music video, this cover has a very tight mix – like it could be set to the actual theme video and fit perfectly. I keep listening to the song to talk about the instrumentation and dynamics, but the video is so entertaining I keep forgetting to listen closely. The second half of the track includes a heavy breakdown and honestly, the whole cover is so satisfying to listen to. Take the 1 minute it takes to listen to this and do yourself a favor!

Toothpaste – Mares Of Mastery In Their Craft | Easy Listening

Toothpaste is great at finding creative ways to make a song fun. Mares of Mastery in Their Craft is a chilled out track dedicated to the masters of relaxation – the spa ponies! Toothpaste uses a very Japanese style of instrumentation and composition combined with a slow drum beat to create a calm track that never drags. Unique and soothing, Toothpaste has added another standout track to their great repertoire!

Yanamosuda – G4G4 (feat. Zephysonas ) | Jazz

No better tag team could there be for this song! Yanamosuda’s expert composition mixed with Zephysonas’ saxophonic brilliance create a beautifully smooth jazz piece! The bass in G4 is incredible with the speed and fluidity of the moving low tones. The saxophone carries the melody with fantastic syncopation, runs, and all-around high-level performance! The drums and piano accentuate the piece well, and make for an incredibly crisp and finely-tuned jazz song!

PinkiePieSwear – Flutter Wonder (UnderpΩny Remix) (Mal Universe Redux) |Uplifting Trance

It’s nice to see such an old face again in the fandom! UnderpΩny has released a redux of PinkiePieSwear’s classic “Flutter Wonder” with those nostalgic soothing pads and melodies of the original with a grooving, rolling progression. It’s a very welcome and long awaited send off, and its really nice seeing such a relaxing song remixed in a way to give it a newfound energy while staying true to the original form. An excellent uplifting vibe that hearkens back to the olden days, this one is a treasure!

N. Hollow – Frost Heart | Hip-Hop

Part of N. Hollow‘s upcoming EP Violent Skies, out July 17th, Frost Heart was released on the Straight From The Heart movement. It was performed on his set at Burning Mare II (the VOD is still up on Burning Mare‘s twitch channel at the moment of writing and will be uploaded by N. Hollow sometime in the future). The beat features ice level-type synths and overall serves as a great canvas for the vocals. N. Hollow’s flow is still impeccable and the auto-tune works nicely with the lyrics revolving around an ill-fated love.

MrMehster & Tw3Lv3 – Work In Progress (LaunchSix Remix) | Dubstep

Part of the remix album (download link here, streaming link here) of MrMehster and Tw3Lv3‘s track Work In Progress from Equinity 02: Catalyst, LaunchSix provided his take on the banger that was the original. LaunchSix took the track he had been assigned to remix and translated directly it into his distinct style. The catchy lead melody from Tw3Lv3 is still here, but new voice lines of his own were added. This flip is also the opportunity for LaunchSix to keep showing off his remarkable sound design and his giant slap to the face of a snare. Keep your eyes peeled for his three tracks on the upcoming Equinity 03: Breach compilation album, dropping soon.
