Plunderphonics always bring about a wave of nostalgia, and the distinct use of Hearth’s Warming and winter themed vocal samples emphasize that cheery warm feeling even further! One thing that really stands out is the simpler instrumental design giving those wonderful chops all the breathing room they need, wistfully complimenting them with their chimes while simultaneously grabbing your attention. Between the wintery chops, bell-like synths, and the always cheerful voice of Ponyville’s resident pink pony; Gloomy Skies and Holidays is quite the warm seasonal spectacle!
The Wilders – A Little Bit of You Remix (ThatBaconHairGirl) | Pop
Today we’re covering a track made by a newer artist to the fandom, ThatBaconHairGirl, who’s been pumping out remixes left and right for the last 6 months. This one’s a take on a holiday tune from Tell Your Tale; it maintains the warmth of the guitars and vocals, but doesn’t stay too cozy as it immediately spices things up with a variety of percussive sounds and effects before swinging right into the original drop, making it bigger and better than before. It’s sure to put a smile on your face!
Daniel Ingram – Hearts Strong As Horses (JTH Remix) | House
NEW REMIX ALERT! JoinedTheHerd is back with another banger, this time remixing “Hearts Strong as Horses” from Friendship is Magic. This smooth house track starts out with guitar, but quickly shifting into dancing synth arpeggios. In fact, every time JTH comes back to a verse, it’s with new instrumentation – sometimes with guitar, sometimes with epic orchestra, sometimes with glockenspiel! The main choruses are equally delightful with their mellow bass, background vocals, and Apple Bloom chops. It’s a wonderful mix overall and quite inspiring to see new G4 remixes a decade after the original came out!
Vale & FL0 – HNQN.mp3 | Glitch-Hop
Vale & FL0’s recent release bursts into vivid, explosive colors. The initial soft lullaby, adorned with playful vocal inserts of Fluttershy’s lullaby, swiftly transforms into a seismic journey of Glitch-Hop madness. Drawing from the roots of old dubstep, the track unleashes heavy and diverse basslines, with high-energy synths and thunderous drums blowing out your speakers. If you haven’t experienced this auditory spectacle, it’s time to hit play and let the vibrant soundscape envelop you.
EveryDayDashie – The Dragon Race | Orchestral
A skiff race combines elegance, tension and excitement for everyone involved and EveryDayDashie captures all these elements masterfully with their song “The Dragon Race”. The traditional instrumentation follows a steady and calm melody, contrasted and interwoven by Dashie’s signature percussion section. These elements combined take you on a thrilling journey across the water and let you relive the tale of the competition told in this amazing piece of music!
ALostCarolean – Fight On, Misty | Darksynth
This track by ALostCarolean is a mesmerizing journey through the realms of Darksynth that had me captivated for every second. The high-speed drums pierce the air, intertwining seamlessly with an energetic bassline and powerful melodies. It’s a nod to the genre’s golden days, reminiscent of when Darksynth and Synthwave took the scene by storm with the release of Hotline Miami. This tune has etched itself into my head, I simply couldn’t stop hitting “repeat” and listening to it again on maximum volume.
NeverLastStanding – Pony Divinity | Complextro
This release from NeverLastStanding is definitely something you don’t hear every day. It has everything – it’s packed with energy, soft airy melodies accompanied with a loud thumping drum beat, and lots of pony samples, which NLS cites as being inspired by Porter Robinson! The visuals for this song are reminiscent of 2012 PMV aesthetic and filled with nostalgia, which is a nice touch. As someone who has never heard their music before, I’ll sit back and enjoy their other works as well, so I encourage you to enjoy as you listen to this lighthearted song!
Wandering Artist – Pony Town Seasons: Winter 01 Reverie | Orchestral
Nyanakaru – Memo to myself | Frutiger Aero
Nyanakaru keeps trying out lots of new genres and styles, and “Memo to myself” is no exception. Based on the glossy aesthetic known as frutiger aero, this track makes use of many different lead and pad synths, even panning some hard left and right to make them extra spacial. Before long, it settles in to a nice, jazzy groove lead by a saw synth and finishes quietly with a more laid back, midi-sounding piano. Words alone doesn’t do the piece justice, so make sure to take a listen yourself to this unique soundscape.
