Nicolas Dominique – Broken | Ambient

This is probably one of my favourite songs from Nicolas Dominique recently. He’s already great at doing beatless tracks, and can immediately set a certain mood with his music. Broken follows on from many other musicians regarding where its inspiration comes from, and there may even be a vocal version of this song in the future, watch this space…

Direct Current – Nimbostratus | Ambient

Wake up. Stretch your wings. Take flight.

The more I try to make ambient and chillout music myself, the more I become envious of those who do it so well, such as Direct Current. I really enjoyed this one, and not just because it’s about master race pegasi; the simple melodies combine together very nicely and the strings add new level of depth to it.

Shika No Mori Sound – Beauty In The Trees | Album | Multi-Genre

It’s time for a new collaborative album from the community, everypony!! And this one certainly delights and holds many surprises! Living up to its lovely title, the album from collaborative effort Shika No Mori Sound (“Forest of Deer”) delivers tracks of pure beauty and power, featuring musicians from all around the community, including familiar names but also some you might not have heard of. What they all have in common is that they did amazing to bring this concept justice and produce a mighty album as beautiful as a forest!

Starting off with the very headbangable Venality from R3ctifier centered around the events of Friendship Games, the first half of the album hits as hard and powerfully as witnessing the many wonders of Nature would feel, with very enthralling tracks such as Aven‘s Purpose (#4), the dark and heavy Worlds from Flak (#14), the insane Dustep madness of IKX in Two Faced (#12), even bringing all the Hardcore with track #7. And this goes not without mentioning the cute yet powerful mellow interlude of Kawaii Dash‘s Bubble Tea (#6) that surprises with a mighty sound design and Future mood!

The second half of the album further embodies the gentle, invigorating and emotional beauty that Nature can grant to those who open their soul to it, with chill-ish songs that matches the concept in the most wonderful ways. Starting with Fallen Empire from emotional Chillout master Totalspark (#15), we then get entranced by the mighty groove and originality from Waifu Avenue‘s 16 Under 20 (#17), dive into the amazing depths of Ax:l‘s Bröadcast (#18), wander through DisCHORD‘s Wilderness with both awe and energy (#19), inger in bliss as the Drum & Bass of Progressive Element‘s Crystal Fragments stimulate our ears and soul (#20), get hit so hard with the amazing soundscapes of Chillout masterpiece Dreamscapes from Totalspark (#21, his second contribution to the album and my personal favorite from the album), to end with the much welcome piece from Vinyl Darkscratch Snipershy’s Ballad (#22) and Shü77erfly‘s melodic Atmosphere that warms the heart and soul (#23).

You can get Beauty In The Trees on its Bandcamp page. And don’t forget to give mad props to all those amazing artists!! You can get their info in the “read more” section of the Soundcloud page.

To all the album’s artists reading this : You guys are amazing, thank you for blessing us with your music and for this masterpiece of an album!! Much love!

Nicolas Dominique – Secluded Glen | Chillout

Acting like the perfect musical embodiment of Secluded Glen from Shamanguli, this new Chillout piece from Nicolas Dominique calls for Exploration and gazing at the many wonders around us as we’ve made our way to a rare landscape that only the most audacious ponies will uncover. We’ve certainly seen how Rarity’s special gift could lead her to life-changing discoveries in The Cutie Mark Chronicles for instance, so it is no surprise to have her as the protagonist of that sensory adventure now brought to you with the power of music. Take a step in, explore, and reflect as the sounds guide you to undiscovered places!

Vylet Pony – Super Pony World | Guest Album Review | Electronic

Better late than never, eh? NB: A small part of this review was also written by Spectra.

Hey kiddos, it’s Reverie, and while I’m busy being sad and hating myself that I haven’t been working on the Top Ten listings that much due to school and graduation and all that, I’ve written a comprehensive review, going track by track through ALL of the new Vylet release, entitled Super Pony World. Since we don’t want to exclude some of the deluxe version material, this is going to cover all of the base tracks plus a couple of the original pieces from the deluxe version. So, let’s hop right into it after the break!

Vylet Pony & Kyunn – Faraway Fidelity | Ambient / Orchestral

A cinematic piece that blends subtle electronic sounds and strong orchestral drums and vibrant woodwind and string instruments. Vylet’s electronic compositions are always a pleasure to listen to, but this orchestral piece is a whole new way to experience his music. Props to Kyunn too for making so many awesome collabs with Vy!

Vylet Pony – 静けさ と 幸福 Tranquility & Happiness | Ambient Orchestral

Yet another release from his Japanese-infused Ramen House EP, Tranquility & Happiness brings just about what it says on the tin, with beautiful piano melodies accentuated by a combination of orchestral elements.

J25K – Silent Ponyville | Dark Ambient Electronic

A track full of spooky sound design, brought to us by relatively new pony musician J25K, Silent Ponyville feels like just the kind of track to be posting late at night. It’s clear that the artist wanted to create a track that would leave an uneasy air, and a majority of the sound design choices certainly lend themselves towards this goal.

/MLP/ Plays – >No Fun Allowed | Album | Multi-Genre

Brace yourselves everypony, because you’re about to get surprised in the most amazing ways, as we present to you the result of two years of collaborative effort from musicians of the 4chan /mlp/ board, a massive 51-tracks album of stunning quality. Featuring a wide variety of genres (even including some very unusual ones), perhaps even more variety than in the P@D or LDB albums, this heartfelt compilation of sophisticated tunes will surprise and delight as you experience its many wonders, such as the very mellow and enthralling RarityRF (#7), the emotional and surprising you-would-never-guess pony vocals from Flut (#8), the incredible vocal chops from Protocat’s remix of I’ll Fly (#11), the masterful collaboration work in To Anon Too Late (#15), one of the best and most epic remixes of Luna’s Future (#21), Feral FurE’s wonderful remix of Better Than Ever (#26), some more feels from the Out On My Own remix (#29), the original Derpy-centered Surf Rock track Surfin’ Derp (#30), the blissful piano melodies from Tree of Harmony (#32), the heartfelt realtalk combined with quality instrumental in Waifu Blues (#33), the mighty rock spirit from Eclipses (#48), or the massive party track The Club Pony Party Palace (#50) that I will feature as a solo post next. I guess the expression “Do not judge a book by its cover” works here, and you won’t be disappointed if you decide to go give the full album a proper listen (and if you would consider donating, note that all proceeds will go to charity). This music lover, for one, is blown away.
