UndreamedPanic – The Beach | Future Bass

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 23 April 2018.

UndreamedPanic’s been hard at work lately, with the end result being an awesome new album of future bass and synthpop-y tunes! This first track from the album has some awesome vocal chops and upbeat composition, as well as some classic future chords. You can grab the album on Bandcamp here!

Flyghtning & Flutter Rex – Nothing but Discord | Electro

Electro, hard trance, whatever you want to call it, this collab between Flyghtning and Flutter Rex is pretty cool. It has this great combination of a dark soundscape, which is only enhanced by the triplets. That deep bass drives most of the song, but it occasionally breaks down into an arp that switches the whole thing into a major key all of a sudden. I love that sort of play between major and minor roots in the same key, nice work by both of these guys!

Fascinatin – Ways We Choose | Synthpop

Oh hey, new musician! Fascinatin here has made a neat synthpop track with some great melodic elements and nice big chords. There’s some room for improvement, but it’s a really promising start for a new musician to make something as good as this!

[P@D] Lovestruck Brony – Sleepless | Synthwave

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 20 April 2018.

Synthwave stuff is definitely an aesthetic that’s been pretty big on the internet for a while now, so it’s cool to see some HOME-style stuff pop up from a pony musician! Big, nostalgic chords, awesome use of a vocal sample hook, glittering arpeggios and some super funky basslines help to make this an insanely catchy tune from Lovestruck. Not to mention the synth solos in the second half!

[P@D] Paloris & Whirly Tail – Feeling Free | Future Bass

Here is another top-notch song from the most recent Ponies at Dawn compilation album. Paloris and Whirly Tail combined to create a track that has smooth, chilled-out sections, bouncy drop phrases, great syncopation, and pinkie pie chops placed so perfectly that you can’t help but smile. The transitions are seamless and the different sections compliment each other beautifully, keeping the track fun and interesting.

Daniel Ingram – Open Up Your Eyes (174UDSI Remix feat. WubcakeVA) | Trance

174UDSI’s taken his classic trance/house style and collabed with Wubcake to make their own version of Open Up Your Eyes. Saw chord stabs and vocal stutters are the standout parts of this track for me.

Vylet Pony – Twinkle (feat. Namii) | Indie Pop

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 14 April 2018.

Vylet certainly knows how to create some grogeous and cosy atmospheres, which is definitely the case here in this piece about Starlight and Trixie. With a mixture of his own and Namii’s vocals melding together beautifully, the combination of acoustic and electronic instrumental elements also work to create a really enjoyable piece.

strigidae – fuzzy purple pancakes | Indie Dance

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 13 April 2018.

Cute, soft tunes are the order of the day from strigidae most of the time, but this time the production levels feel higher than normal, and the energy is a step up too, with some awesome use of fun tropical-feeling sound design and vocal chanting to go with the main vocals. Check it out for some great vibes about Starlight and Trixie!
