Ponysphere & Secret Metal – Fine Lady | Metal

Finally a rightfully inspired song about Rarity’s antics in S05E15 Rarity Investigates! And we can definitely count on Ponysphere and Secret Metal to deliver all the Metal greatness in full force. Blissful lead guitar solos, solid rythm guitar riffs and drums, tasty bass, and amazing vocals all around from both musicians, all give to this track much power in pure Metal style. A much welcomed addition, much love to Ponysphere and Secret Metal! Also kudos to the MLP staff for what they’ve done. May that fateful scene continue to inspire!

Luck Rock’s back with a more acoustic-oriented piece that focuses on Luna, with some lovely orchestral elements helping to complement the guitar, and steady vocals.

Mane In Green – For Equestria We Rise | Orchestral Metal

Here comes one of my favorite releases!! For the third and final act of the story initiated with The Eternal Reign of King Sombra, Mane In Green composed a 18-minutes track!! For me who uses to listen to some 20-minutes Prog Rock tracks, this is a real delight (and it does have hints of Prog Rock, progression-wise but also musically at times). And For Equestria We Rise is not just long and progressive, it has its own storyline, too! And the music fits so well with it! You can get the details in the description, with timestamps for the different parts, and there’s additional lines appearing in the video, along very fitting artworks. Mane In Green truly went all-out for this final chapter, and the result is nothing short of breathtaking, combining the musician’s talents at both Orchestral and Rock music, with even powerful organs and choruses in some parts bringing even more epicness. A progressive masterpiece and fusion of genres, empowered by an inspired story and a wonderful heartfelt message at the end. Truly one of Mane In Green’s finest works, if not simply the artist’s biggest masterpiece. You definitely want to sub to Mane In Green for more amazing content, and also don’t forget to show your support to the artist for his work and feelings!

Elias Frost – Midnight Frenzy (covering Duo Cartoonist) | Metal

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 22 February 2017.

Something I didn’t expect to see, but am definitely happy to hear! Shifting away from his usual fare of show song covers, Elias Frost delivers a cover of the piece recently put out by Duo Cartoonist. It’s decidedly heavier, with a pretty metal atmosphere and some growl-y tones to some of the vocals, but the traditionally sung chorus is where this shines the most for me, as it works brilliantly with Elias’ voice.

Reverbrony – Unbound | Metal

Reverbrony is back in full force with his heavier musical style, so it’s time to partake in epic melodic guitar solos and riffs once again! Reflecting so well the amazing cover art by JaDeDJynX, Unbound unleashes heavy guitars and drums backed up by a solid bass in a relentless progression, like in a blaze of fury, except that it’s blissful sounds instead of magical attacks. Although, if music truly is magic, I must say those are very efficient attacks!

PrinceWhateverer – Between Fairytales & Happy Endings (feat. Kaspuuh & Senra) | Soft Rock

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 24 February 2017.

Prince is back with a new track from his Reinvent album. Unlike a lot of the high energy available on the album, this redux of a piece from yesteryear is a lot more relaxed and acoustically-oriented. Prince’s vocals still shine in this kind of setting, and it’s nice to see one his more emotional tracks done up in his much more professional recent sound. It gets a bit heavier towards the end, which is also a pretty nice payoff.

HMHotstpot main art

The Horse Music Hotspot is one year old this month! 🎉🎉🎉

This month we saw an especially strong influx of quality rock and acoustic music, among some other non-electronic genres. While there’s still been plenty that (particularly good dnb), it’s a pleasure to see such a strong variety. Check out this month’s episode for a complete melange of genres!

To listen in live, tune in to Ponyville FM at 4PM Eastern on the last Sunday of each month!

Tracklist and embeds available after the break Continue reading

Maressey – Death of a Drunken Dancer (Berry Punch’s Demise) | Indie Rock

NB: This is an edited version of what was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 22 February 2017.

Maressey has a new release featuring terrific vocals from Francis Vace, with an instrumental provided by Zatslol and Freewave. It’s another pretty sombre track, this time about Berry Punch, and I especially enjoy the variance in the vocal style.

SlightlyAmiss – Silence (feat. CaptainNateEvans) | Alternative Rock

NB: This is an edited version of what was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 22 February 2017.

SlightlyAmiss has released a pretty cool prog-style rock track about Nurse Redheart. There’s not a whole lot of content pertaining to her recently, so it’s cool to hear a song like this. It explores some pretty dark emotions throughout, with Amiss’ vocals complementing a pretty strong instrumental.

FritzyBeat – Polychromatic (covering Turquoise Splash) | Pop Rock

NB: This was originally posted on Equestria Daily on 19 February 2017.

Originally a piece by Turquoise Splash released all the way back in 2012, Polychromatic has been done up in a new coat of paint by FritzyBeat with some help from Jastrian and a very cute animation made by Yudhaikeledai. Fritzy’s vocals fit the track really well, with a similar feel to the original ones, and the mixing provided by Jastrian helps to make sure the instrumental doesn’t feel aged much at all.
