Direct Current – Clinging Thoughts of a Lit Wick | Piano/Ambient

Direct Current’s latest track is a lovely minimalist piece about the passing of time. It opens up with a slightly de-tuned piano laced with static before flourishing with DC’s iconic processed vocals accompanied by subtle bass and light orchestral stabs. And then, just as it feels like it’s getting started, it goes fleetingly back to piano and then silence, just like the sand in an hour glass on its final grains. Make sure you don’t blink, or you’ll miss it!

Jyc Row – Thorax’ Quietus (Molten Spike arc epilogue) | Orchestral

Finishing off his Molten Spike arc, Jyc Row delivers us a heart-wrenching song about the aftermath of the epic fight between Molten Spike and Ember and Thorax. “Thorax’ Quietus” follows the King of the Changelings with a re-orchestration of his original UEP theme, mourning the loss of those fallen during the confrontation. While strings provide the musical background, the melody mostly gets carried by a mixture of bagpipes and a mixed choir, furnishing the track with a sense of tragedy and heroic sacrifice compared to the hopeful sounding theme it was derived from. All this is intensified by the animatic made specifically for this video by Amyntha Eszti, illustrating the grief and loss Thorax is experiencing, making the song and video an emotional experience that will burn itself into your memory!

Jyc Row & Gabriel Borza – Nerath, Goddess of Nightmares (feat. Michael Gildner & Koa) [Metal Cover]

If you listened to Ponies at Dawn’s Dreamwalkers, then you know the original. Now prepare yourself for the metal version with heavy guitars played by Gabriel Borza and vocals with Michael Gardner. The pervasive, muted guitars add a fiery intensity over the original while the new vocals lend well to the symphonic metal style. Koa’s voice still accents the song creating a soundscape that is full, gorgeous, and intimidating all in one!

Nyanakaru – Stray Strand | Old-School Dubstep

It’s been forever since I’ve seen a classic-style dubstep track with no bass drops or other aspects that scream “popular dubstep.” Nyanakaru gives that feeling of dubstep with “Stray Strand” without all that high-energy that you can find in other dubstep songs. The vibe has that sort of creepy aura to it adding to that slow burn lead-up from the start. You will have anticipation for that eventual drop that will never happen, but still a satisfying conclusion at the end. If you want a dubstep-esque track that you can listen to without raising your heartbeat, this is the track for sure!

The result is a lovely, laid back ambient house track perfectly fitting for the season, and it continues to shine with a warm bass present in the chorus, some fun synth riffs, and cool effects sprinkled throughout. Twilike – I’m With You | Synthpop

“I’m With You” is not only a song, but a whole story. It is a message Twilight Sparkle would have let to the future generations, and the energetic yet chill vibes given by the instrumentals as well as the sad tone added by the lyrics gives this track the perfect balance it needed to appreciate the lullaby brought by our favorite purple horse. Close your eyes, listen to this song, and let yourself flow through the nostalgia of the show and the adventures it has given us!

Evershade – Those Nights | Pop

Another track from Evershade’s Troublemaker album is up on their channel! “Those Nights” begins with a bouncy synth lead, and the sparkly synth choices don’t end there! A bouncy bass follows and more soaring leads get groovy during the chorus. Evershade’s vocoded vocals fit right into the synths, and if you listen carefully, you’ll hear the relatable tale of a pony caught out at the club, wanting to escape. On the bright side, if you can’t manage to leave, at least you’ll be stuck listening to this bop.
