El Nulevoe – Power Metal Cartoon Horse 5: The Horsening | Thrash Metal
Explicit lyric warning: swearing
If you haven’t been paying attention to this Sombra series of tracks over the last year or so – you are missing out! This high-energy, multi-part story tells of the struggle and battle for the Crystal Kingdom from a relatively new fandom creator with a fascination for the evil Umbrum. Through driving, aggressive drums and fast guitar riffs/solos, “The Horsening” is sure to get your blood pressure pumping. The animation and lyric video is always a plus for following along with a laugh too!
PumpkinZ – Oasis | Chill Pop
All of us need to put our brains on standby from time to time to just relax, and PumpkinZ with this lovely little track puts you immediately in the right mood to calm down. The slow melody, carried by piano, flute and guitar weaving in and out creates a short yet pleasant acoustic journey to help you ease up any tensions acquired throughout the day – just put this song on and let your thoughts rest for a few minutes!
Boyd, Confalone, & Bustamante – Photo Booth [Ice Angel Remix] | Progressive House
Ice Angel’s keeping the love for Equestria Girls alive with an absolutely delightful remix of “Photo Booth” released earlier this year. The track starts by mellowing out the bass line, adding soft guitar and an ever so subtle touch of mallet-like synths to make a sparkling texture. But don’t get too used to that instrumentation–the chorus is dominated with big synth arpeggios and even a cow bell thrown in for fun! It switches things up later on by swapping the house beat with a drum and bass groove. Overall, the song’s is upbeat and euphoric, a lovely banger sure to raise your spirits!
Skyshard – Aridia Theme | Soundtrack
With her latest Fallout Equestria track, “Aridia Theme,” Skyshard noted that this is her first time using an Arabian music scale, but by Jove, I think she’s nailed it! The track emulates the desert vibe perfectly with the wailing wind at its beginning, and its choice of instruments throughout. The bells and drums provide the perfect cadence for a trek through the sand, the strings evoke a sense of suspense, and the flute provides that final sweetness to the track like a cherry on top. It’s the perfect setting for an adventure, so I’m calling all sonic explores to check this one out!
SpinScissor – Father of Forever | Experimental
Like its name suggests, “Father of Forever” by SpinScissor strikes a very eternal and introspective vibe. It’s an experimental electronic track which fully explores a variety of unique sounds, with glitches, harsh synths, and crazy modulations. At times, it sounds like a house track with its strong kick and snare click, and this contrasts the existential musings of the lyrics. Spin’s smooth vocals decorate the track, both in the foreground but also in the background, soaked with delay, reverb, and panning automation to build up its eerie texture. There’s also a spoken word section which breaks down the broken relationship between Sweetie Bot and her maker.
This is only the first track of SpinScissor’s Sweetie Bot themed EP which released this year, so make sure to check that out for more sound design goodness!
Thrack – Start the Show (Feat. Jesh PK) [2024] | Pop Rock
A release from earlier this year, Thrack’s “Start the Show” is a warm and lovely song capturing Sunny’s spirit. It is structured like a pep talk to her self, with the lyrics mentioning her pushing through adversary to spread her message, with the chorus cleverly giving a nod to the movie’s own number, “gonna be my day.” Thrack’s voice is accompanied by Jesh PK’s vibrant piano and Thrack’s own guitar playing and sweetly soft drumming. This one’s sure to bring you happy vibes!
Frozen Night – Fragmenting | Orchestral
Tw3Lv3 ft. Koa, MC-Arch, Drummershy – One Small Thing (Royalpony Remix) | Hardcore
Earlier this year, Royalpony released a hardcore remix of one of the modern classics: “One Small Thing” by Tw3Lv3 and company. His take begins with rapid synth arpeggios and the mellowest of sub basses, gradually building in intensity with the kick, snare and Koa’s gorgeous vocals. But, right as the track prepares to land its big drop, RP throws in a twist and has the entire instrumental drop out before swinging back into the groove. MC-Arch’s rap segment is also nicely done with a fresh beat, and it’s overall a wonderful and fresh take on the tune.
