RedSpark – Elements | Hybrid Orchestral

It’s been a while since RedSpark’s been around! Elements is their first release since March 2017. This new piece mixes orchestral and electronic elements (heyo!) in such an amazing way that makes it feel like it was taken straight from the show, especially during the middle section where some plucked strings take over as the main instrument. What a way to return to the fold!

PSFMer – Aversion | Drum & Bass

PSMFer is a new face in the music side of the fandom, though he has made animations (including PMVs) in the past. Aversion is his second song, the first one being Wonders, releasing tomorrow (or today, depending on when this writeup is published and on time zones) on Ponies At Dawn – Ignite. This DnB song is insane, especially coming from someone with only one full song of experience. Furthermore, the neurofunk and garage inspirations are very welcome. Rainbow Dash’s dream in Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep? is rendered perfectly and the loud sub, the tight drums and the gasps for air give an impression of suffocation, of having nowhere to run, of drowning in the stuff nightmares are made of.

Harmonic Six – Magic | Orchestral

This track definitely sounds like something you’d hear in an MMO, like background music in a forest! The music here is orchestral, which, with the genre naturally being well organized as well as harmonic, in my opinion really fits Twilight, the character this song is dedicated to! Overall, this track has some spectacular music!

[P@D] Faulty & John Kenza – Best Of Friends (feat. PegasYs) | Melodic House

Our final teaser for Ponies at Dawn: Ignite is here: track 32 and the third of four original tracks from P@D mainstay Faulty. This one sees John Kenza and PegasYs coming along for the ride too. There’s nothing but love pouring out of this track, from the bouncy, optimistic synth sounds to the heartfelt lyrics about staying together as friends, which is really what makes this close-knit fandom tick. All three of them put a lot of heart and soul into this track, and it shows. Mwah~!

Yellow Tune & Exiark – Everfree Forest (feat. Melody Bird) (Yellow Tune Remix) | Hardstyle

Ready for a hard-hitting banger? Everfree Forest was originally a collab between 174UDSI (now Yellow Tune) and Exiark released in 2014. It still holds the title of being among the cream of the crop of the fandom’s hardstyle collection. In 2017 it came out on Ponies At Dawn Memories, but just got remixed by Yellow Tune. In this rework melody plays a lesser role, the emphasis being on sound design and energy instead. It hits overall harder than the original, from which little remains, aside from the structure, the vocal clips of Melody Bird and some sounds. The song begins with rainforest ambient noises, then the stirring super saws come in. The kick is central in hardstyle, and here he just nailed it, making for some serious headbanging material.

PeKaNo – Nu Ponyville | Ambient/Drum & Bass

Cyberpunk and neon vibes all around, Nu Ponyville paints a bright picture of a futuristic town. The song takes an ambient approach with bloopy synthlines and pads, plus nostalgic drum samples. At the middle mark, we hear a voice sample from Twilight with a message from the future, before the song suddenly jumps into overdrive with a drum & bass inspired beat without sounding too jarring or out of place. The overall mood of the song stays the same.

Studio Quinn – Second Place, A Trixie Song (feat. Sea Cream) | Pop Rock

Studio Quinn (previously known as M2the3rd) keeps delivering heartfelt songs, this one being about Trixie and those who don’t always come out on top. The lyrics are from a poem by Sea Cream and the instrumental Studio Quinn created for them could not be more fitting. The sweet piano playing impresses strong emotions and is later joined by drums and strings in the second chorus. A guitar even makes an appearance in the last quarter of the song. Carried by the delicate singing are the same feelings of being overshadowed by peers.

MelodyBrony – Moonlight | Acoustic Rock

This track portrays Season 7, 8, and 9’s love story arc of Big Mac and Sugar Belle, with uplifting music that really fits with the theme, including acoustic guitar, incredible lyrics and vocals, and a drum beat that both reflect the whole feel of the story, and that can get stuck in your head! Seriously, this song could easily pass for an actual show song!

Mylo the Kidd – Hello | Lo-Fi Hip-Hop

You might remember Mylo the Kidd from their verse in sad hors hours — which was absolute fire. Since then they’ve been silent, but just came back with this killer song. Their flow is impeccable and they deliver some lines in a way that seems impossible to pull off, but saves them at the last second. This style keeps the listener on their toes (hooves?) and it complements the equally interesting lyrics. The production is a clean, chill lo-fi loop that leaves a lot of room for the rapping. Welcome back Mylo.

Mane In Green – Firedance | Orchestral

Mane In Green’s works are interwoven and taken as a whole make up a unique piece of art. She only lets us get glimpses of the world she has created at once. We were able to learn about the spring rituals of the pegasi in Rituals And Dances Of The Pegasi featuring Koron Korak, but here we discover a new kind of ritual: the firedance. Usually inspired more heavily by European folk music, Mane In Green’s music ventures here in other parts of the world. However the experimentation doesn’t end here, as the tempo changes during the song, giving a sense of movement which would be reflected in the characters’ dance. Thankfully, it won’t be long until we hear more of Mane In Green’s music: keep your eyes peeled for her collab with Velvet R. Wings on the upcoming Ponies At Dawn Ignite album!
