Various Artists – JapanPonyParty! Vol.3 | Album | Multi-Genre

We completely missed this when it first released back in May, but thanks to someone sending it in to us, we’re able to share it with you today! This compilation album featuring artists from the Japanese fandom scene was released at Japan Ponycon in May earlier this year. It features some names you might recognise (e.g. Oodoratoo2, delfino), but also has a wide variety of other artists you may never have heard of, and a huge range of genres too! The above video contains previews of each track, and the album itself can be downloaded from JPP’s website for free!

Reverbrony – Black Rose | Progressive Metal

Something a little bit different from Reverbrony – this time utilising his own vocals, something of a rarity in his extensive body of work. Whilst it’s definitely not quite at the level of quality of some of the other vocalist he brings in for many of his projects, it has a lot of promise regardless and absolutely suits his signature brand of progressive metal.

Chris Wöhrer – We are the Night | Metal

Originally released as an instrumental 2 years ago as an instrumental, Chris Wöhrer has re-recorded and re-released his song We are the Night, now with his own vocals too! The Austrian metal musician has recently hit 700 subs, so congratulations from us, it’s well deserved!

Ponysphere & Friends – The Land Of Harmony Part 1: Through the Frost And Ice | Metal

Brace yourselves everypony, masterpiece ahoy! Here we’ve got a quite stunning Progressive/Symphonic/Folk metal beauty from Ponysphere, putting a beautiful and passionate vision to reality with the help of the amazing BriLizy T providing utterly gorgeous vocals, Shurrikane‘s orchestral talents, DivinumX rocking a guest solo, and Secret Metal helping with mixing and mastering. The 8-minutes song has got everything to stand as a timeless gem, from the delightful progression to the masterful instrumentations of both heavy parts empowered by powerful vocals and soft parts sublimated by choruses and piano play. As for the cover art by Flarescale, it completes the whole and adds to the “concept” feel while reminding of cover arts from Folk Metal bands such as Korpiklaani (or from some Prog Rock bands of old).

Alexander Engström – King of the Horde | Metal

A very long time in the making, this epic progressive metal piece is based on the episode Dragon Quest, and clocks in at an astounding 17 minutes long! How’s that for progressive, eh? It consists of 6 movements, and is itself part of an upcoming concept album fro Alexander, gotta say I’m looking forward to that!

[KM] Reverbrony – Mind Storm | Progressive Metal

Experimenting a bit more with clean guitar sounds than usual, Reverbrony made this progressive piece for the King Mars album. Still plenty of great heavy sounds in there later on too, it just makes a nice, long progression up to them to keep you suspended 😉

[LDB] Reverbrony – Perfect Storm | Progressive Metal

The first of many from the new Lycan Dese Beats album, Reverbrony’s back at it again with a song of epic proportions. Echoey clean guitars build up this song to the point of lightning stike, very apt for Dashie chasing storms.

Lycan Dese Beats – Beats Me 2! | Album | Multi-Genre

Just over a year after the release of their first compilation album, Beats Me, Lycan Dese Beats has released a new album, consisting of entirely new and exclusive songs by the musicians they usually feature on their show. Similar to the Ponies at Dawn albums, this album offers songs from a grand variety of artists, however, this album has a greater non-electronic influence that you might expect, perhaps more all-rounded.

You can download this from Bandcamp for any given price, and we’ll be featuring songs from the album as they’re released with an [LDB] label in the post titles.

SlightlyAmiss & Dr. Somepony – Persevere | Metal

Many a song has derived from the Fallout: Equestria universe, arguably the biggest collective fanwork in itself. The latest of these is a new instrumental progressive metal track from Slightly Amiss, a usually more acoustic and alt. rock-based musician, and Dr. Somepony, your friendly neighbourhood German metalhead.
