I always picture Nyancat380 working on these songs in a room full of classic horror movie props with a bunch of electricity zapping around, because they are an absolute mad genius. Opening with some vocal chops from “Sisterhooves Social”, the video tells a story through a series of pictures that the artist made themself set over live video footage (in the same vein as the fantastic “Clear My Head“). The melody is dark with a great hip-hop beat, the bass is exquisite, and the overall vibe is delightfully ominous and atmospheric. I love how perfectly the music matches the story as it progresses, and I can’t wait for the next installment!

Assertive Fluttershy – Boooring (Aventrix Remix) | Drumstep / Drum & Bass
Ahhhhh, this is such a fun trip! Aventrix, who may or may not be remixing every track on this little album, is at it again (or isn’t) with this wonderful remix of an absolute classic! The lovely melody of the original really comes through here with a new vibe thanks to a pitch shift and Aventrix’s lovely synth additions and little touches that breathe a different kind of life into the song. Paired with a slick video, it’s an absolute joy of a track!
[ETC] Payyn – How to be Popular | Hardcore
A fantastically frantic twist on the song “Becoming Popular“, this track from the latest ETC album is a treat for any fan of intense music! Opening with a stripped down version of the melody, the song goes along merrily until it takes a sharp turn and descends into delightful distortion. What I especially enjoy about this track is how it takes such an elegant song delivered by a pony who is the epitome of grace, straps a couple of rockets to it, and sends it screaming down the tracks. Awesome.
[ETC] Acid Applejack – Celestia Rebirth | Frenchcore
This awesome track from Equestrian Terror Corps’ latest album opens with an eerie melody and ramps up with a Celestia vocal chop from “A Canterlot Wedding” before the fast-paced percussion kicks in. There is a delightful transition that brings in the distorted bassline, which really kicks things into high gear. The song mellows in the middle before ramping back up, and blaring sirens pair with the full arrangement to great effect! An awesome contribution to the album!
Glimm x Khaliber & DJ Skystorm – Izzy Pop (Dropper Vampire & Varexis Remix) | Big Room House / Electro House
In case you hadn’t heard about it before, Glimm, Khaliber, and DJ Skystorm held a remix contest for their song “Izzy Pop“, and some fantastic artists got on board! Then they made the whole thing avaliable for free on Bandcamp! Legends. Speaking of legends, you’ve probably heard a few tracks from Dropper Vampire and Varexis before, and for good reason. The two super skilled artists created this awesome collaboration, which sounds like it’s being pumped from the speakers of Equestria’s hottest club! The fantastic vocals and melody from the original are carried over here, and the backing instrumental is pumped full of dark, vibrant energy, creating a lively and highly danceable soundscape. Great effects and sound design throughout meld perfectly with synths and dialed in bass to create a super satisfying remix. Check it out and get your day pumping!

Ocean Melody – Radiance | Orchestral
What a wonderfully joyous song! I’ve been trying to temper my expectations for the movie, but it will have been an undeniable success if it has even half of the beautiful soul of this composition. Paired with a snippet of art from the trailer, the arrangement begins as if opening on sun-drenched scenes that are for now left to the imagination and blooms into a beautiful story. This song is incredibly well-composed and dynamic. Well done, Ocean Melody, and I sincerely hope that the folks who worked on the film were similarly inspired!
KaraJam – Plastic Horse (feat. Sound Bandit & Amy Bestevez) | Hyperpop
Hyperpop seems like the perfect genre for celebrating the joys of getting lost in imagination while playing with plastic horses. The amped up, super sweet instrumental zips the song along through pastel landscapes of bubbly synths and bouncy beats. The lyrics are fantastic, delivered perfectly by the collaborating artists, and the whole package pairs so well with the visualizer. Would life be better as a plastic horse? There no way of knowing, but at least we have this song to help us get there in imagination land!
Algo at All – Life is Better With You (2021 Rework) | Alternative Electronic
It’s always wonderful to see a musician grow and improve their craft, and this song is such a great example of that. Algo at All has done an amazing job of completely reworking their original track, a fun, lighthearted tune featuring great vocal chops from everyone’s favorite party pony and her song “Pinkie’s Present“. This reworked version opens with some gentle synths and pulsing, distorted bass, setting up a light melody before the vocal chops drift and pulse into the mix. The processed vocals pair amazingly with the arrangement, and when the laidback percussion kicks in and the melody comes to the foreground the listening experience is like getting a warm hug. There are some great chiptune vibes throughout the track as the arrangement keeps morphing into new, delightful forms that make me feel simultaneously nostalgic and hopeful for the future, fitting for a track that embraces the past while moving ever forward. What a lovely present.
SpinScissor – Never Everfree | Downtempo
Do you miss music from the heydays of EDM? xD Well, you’re in luck, because so does SpinScissor! Opening with a great synth and bass combo, the super processed arrangement is soon joined by appropriately processed vocals that drift through the menacing mist of the Everfree Forest as the protagonists flee from unknown terror. The track lopes along as if it’s stalking its subjects, creating tension through a menacing bassline accompanied by wonderful synth melodies that swirl and climb dramatically. The song ends on a lighter note, but the frightened ponies aren’t out of the woods yet! Do they make it safely to their destination, or are they lost forever to the incomprehensible creatures lurking in the darkness? All I know is that I enjoyed this story, and I wouldn’t mind some more!
