Deavas – Eternal Night | Metal

All hail Nightmare Moon, ruler of one of the best times of the year for Pony music! Deavas doesn’t mess around with this tribute, opening with some hard charging guitar riffs and percussion and a clip from the Mare of the Hour herself tormenting the citizens of Ponyville. The song launches into full effect after Nightmare Moon shouts “the night will last forever”, and the dueling guitar melodies do an awesome job of embodying the storm of fear felt by the witnesses to this auspicious event. There’s awesome guitar work throughout the song that mixes with nice changes of pace, and ending with Luna’s evil laugh is the perfect culmination for this rock maelstrom.

[P@D] L-Train – Books And Branches | Electro Swing

L-Train has recently made quite a splash in our community with his recent forays into electro swing, with many fun and colorful releases in this modernization of the swing genre. His newest track, “Books and Branches” comes to us hot off the press, courtesy of the newest Ponies at Dawn compilation album, “Aurora.” Making creative use of Twilight’s vocals from her “Morning in Ponyville” song from the season 3 finale, “Books and Branches” gets us up and moving to an upbeat melody, catchy chorus, bouncy bassline, and epic drum and guitar solos punctuated by lively horns and woodwinds. All in all, I think it’s safe to say that L-Train, this electro swing king has done it again with “Books and Branches” – a vibrant track that’s sure to make you feel that “Everything is certainly fine!”

[ASOS] Sylvver – Psychedelhi | Big Room House

My buddy Sylvver has been trying so hard to make it onto ASOS; When you hear this track, you understand why she just made ASOS: Eclair! A track about traveling the sands of Saddle Arabia, A hero is fighting their way across the desert looking for glory and coming to the aid of friends! The track big room house genre shows here with those big adventurous bass tones, and that melody makes you feel like you are in an epic montage in your pursuit of your enemies! The song starts like you riding off into the night with that build, then transits over to this more serine tone with those harmonies, as if you stoping to plan your next move as you rest before you spot then and ATTACK! Just song picks up again. Sylvver told me this song tells the story of a hero’s epic battle across the dunes of Saddle Arabia; I say a FINE track for your first ever song on ASOS! As always, this Qilin asks you to judge for yourself.

Synthis – Floating | Future Pop / Chillout

Ever felt like you’re in a void – hovering uneasily in the clouds, separated from a world below that you can’t quite see or reach?  You’ve no idea where you’re going or, even worse, if you’re heading anywhere at all.  These emotions are familiar to me, and, apparently, I’m not the only one.  Sam Synthis, one of the most talented singer/songwriters in the fandom, has skillfully captured this caught-in-the-clouds feeling with his latest release, “Floating.”   Powerful lyrics highlight the reality we humans face as we all struggle to make sense of the world we live in and bring it under some semblance of our own control – a goal that inevitably eludes us and often leaves us feeling “empty and broken,” with “loose ends” scattered around the seams of our lives along with the realization that we’re all “floating towards forever.”  Such deep reflections might lend themselves to dark or heavy musical rendering, but Synthis’ smooth vocals combined with a chill melody and instrumentation carry hope and positivity, making the lyrical message reflective and relatable rather than dark and heavy.  I ended up feeling that although we sometimes find ourselves in a “Ground Hog Day” that never seems to end, though we sometimes feel empty and broken, we’re not alone in this.  There’s not something wrong with us.  It’s part of the human experience.  And maybe it causes us to stop looking so much at the clouds around us or the world below us for answers.  I, for one, have learned to look up.

MirroredReality – The Night Returns | Electronic

Well, this certainly is a banger fitting well to the holiday! MirroredReality has always made great tracks, but this one is not only great, but also very fitting to Nightmare Nights. The track starts out with a chilly synth melody that will send a chill down your spine, slowly more elements join in and we get a different synth for our main melody. Quickly we get into the build up that lives a lot from drums, something I have personally seen actually not as much as people may think so this is a welcome bit of variety! Now we get to the drop, by virtue of being Electronic you can actually hear different genres in the drop, which is a very enjoyable experience and all around gives the drop even more fun. In between the drop slightly changes at a few points, giving this song the perfect amount of variety and after this wonderful explosion of melodies we come right back to a bone chilling synth this time we get a bit more accompaniment including some fun fast claps until we get back to the stunning build up and the once again fantastic drop, said drop is also what we end this masterpiece of Nightmare Night music on.

Kimiko Glenn – Fit Right In (NYMUND9 Remix) | Electro

Today I bring you yet another awesome remix of the G5 movie song “Fit Right in”, this time courtesy of NYMUND9! The track starts out with a fun Electro melody accompanied by muffled vocals from our favorite unicorn herself. Normally the vocals would slowly start to fade in more, but NYMUND9 does things differently, and in a fun bit of variety the vocals suddenly fully set in, and we go full into the song. As the song goes on the melody slowly builds up with more synths and some fun clapping until it changes slightly for Hitch and Sunny’s part. After a bit the melody builds up and we get sort of a semi drop in mainly a change of melody, again something not a lot of tracks do but something that is definitely very enjoyable! After a bit, we get into a clapping build up that once again doesn’t lead to what you would expect but instead leads into a short part where the vocals are muffled again before once again going full send into very fun electro melodies before we end this song just like a unicorn would!

Whirlwind – Colorless | Dark Ambient

Well, have we got another masterpiece for you about one of our favorite celebrations of the year, this time courtesy of Whirlwind! We start this one out with a bone chilling, echoey melody that will make your skin crawl your every muscle shudder! This is followed by a bone chilling sound that words fail to describe as we get a beat mostly consisting of heavy heartbeats with a few other sounds slowly joining in and forming this eerie, creepshow-like melody. This is interrupted once more by an unidentifiable sound followed closely by a siren in the distance. We then set back in with the prior instruments and ambience of the song a and add some new ones, creating a cacophony of different sounds and emotions that is so fitting for this scary, spooky time of the year. For the end the sounds change up ever so slightly, and the song ends with this very creepy tune that I can’t even describe.

Steely Hooves – Magic Mayonnaise | Electro

Yep, yep, this is exactly what you think it is, and it is amazing! This is a giant joke track if you haven’t figured it out yet, and the lyrics make that clear as day, but let’s start at the beginning. The track starts out with “Bing Bong” vocal chops and the melody slowly rising up from muffled to full-on pumping. As we get a melody change the amazing vocals by Steely Hooves set in telling of how unicorns once were and how powerless they are now. We get a hilarious chorus all about the four forbidden words, and right after that we get yet another fun bit of melody accompanied by some fun vocal chops and then some instrumental parts. After the wonderfully funny chorus we get straight back into another verse, this time focused on the judgement that ponies are passing because of what the unicorns used to be followed once again by the hilarious chorus. We end this wonderful piece on some more awesome melodies and vocal chops, providing a fun bit of variety from beginning to end!

Daniel Ingram – We’ll Make Our Mark (Snow Swirl Remix) | Drum & Bass

Who said that now that G5 has officially begun that we can’t have more fire remixes of G4 classics? Snow Swirl tackles a song a lot of people love from an episode that a lot of people really enjoyed, but before I get sappy about the past let’s take a look at this masterpiece! We start out with not too much beat, which is something that I always love to see, because the beat has time to build and doesn’t hit you like a freight train. As the beat grows, the vocals slowly break through and take center stage, and I don’t think I have to tell you how great the lyrics are. Soon we get into our first build up, and here is where the DnB elements start to shine. Then we get to the drop, and the drop is a wonderful love letter to all things DnB and an absolute pleasure for your ears. A bit into the drop we also get some vocal chops that fit the arrangement really well. After the drop we get to Rainbow’s part of the song, accompanied mostly by a stupendous acoustic guitar melody, and then, continuing with that same melody, we get to Rarity’s part. Afterwards we get this stunning string melody that you’d expect to hear in an orchestral piece. Then, in a moment that completely surprised me, the strings combine with the beat and the vocals to create this uplifting, inspirational part that goes straight into the drop in a wonderful display of Snow Swirl’s musical skill. The drop once again works with vocal chops, but this time around the focus lies more on the upbeat DnB melody. We end on a combination of the drop and the lovely acoustic guitar.

BGM Pony Degeneracy – SpookyMare | Spookystep

To celebrate Nightmare Night BGM has given us a very special track, and what more appropriate genre could there be for such a song than Spookystep? The track starts with a classic organ melody together with some spooky howling and a bit of beat before, out of nowhere, there’s this big beat change into a hasty melody, and suddenly it’s as if you’re running away from some unseen evil. We then get into yet another beat change and end up with a more upbeat, groovy beat and some great lyrics about there’s no way to run away. After this first verse comes an awesome and fun chorus followed straight by the next fun verse with all the vocals being delivered by the Mane Six courtesy of TalkNet, which is a wonderful touch! We end this whole thing on some more groovy melodies and one more iteration of the chorus.
