Short yet so important, this parody of Friends in response to that reference in Pony Life is very appreciated, and Luck Rock was the pony musician for the job! Evershade even made a mini PMV to accompany the song, and overall this new Pony Life fan work is just SO lovely and awesome! Give it up to the creators everypony! I wish that more works like these get made!
Pop
MelodyBrony & Friends – Silverstream (Covering Forest Rain) | Pop Rock
MelodyBrony got the dream team together for this one! Himself on rhythm guitar, Luck on lead, Agatan’s vocals, Whirlwind on drums, and IvoryBrony on keys make for a killer birthday tribute to a personal favorite of mine from Forest Rain. It’s as full of energy as the original, and every bit as much of a joy to have on repeat.
Maddie Tourmaline – The Flower Gardener | Ambient Pop
Now this is an interesting one! This piece has a very mystical yet powerful personality it feels fairly simple and straight forward however the way the instrumentation and percussion is used from the drones to the the spaced out chimes and bass… not an ounce of potential is wasted and the whimsical vocals really tie everything together, AND DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE DYNAMICS! Maddie has grabbed my attention for sure here and I’m very intrigued to see what else they have in store!
Sound Bandit – Pink Horse (feat. Nexgen & AnimatronicPony) | HyperPop
Oh, it’s Sound Bandit back with another DustCar entry, this time to the theme of Luster Dawn with brony hip hop vet Nexgen and even AnimatronicPony getting into the fun. The lyrics are random as Pinkie Pie herself, like she’s trying to decide where she’s going to pop out and freak a pony out. There is some trash talking about some opinions about the show all with a strange video with heat vision of them at a mall video arcade. The beat and rhymes are fun and distorted, and Sound Bandit once again has made yet another catchy rap tune that this fandom will more than likely get behind. As always, this Qilin asks you to judge for yourself.
Lord Sunfyre – Nothing’s Perfect (feat. GazPony & BreeBree) | Pop Punk
More Pony Life music! The track is brought to you by yet another brony punk rocker, Lord Sunfyre. They are joined by GazPony’s energetic vocals and mixed by Bree, and together they have created a track with some classic punk rock guitar and pace, and lyrics with a message to the fandom. Things are never perfect, nor is the show Pony Life, but the fandom can live on regardless. The vocals and the rockin’ instrumentation speed through this track with the same madcap energy of the show. The video itself has the nice touch of showing moments from all nine seasons of FiM, which is another strong reminder of why we are here. Give this dude some love! As always, this Qilin asks you to judge for yourself.
Studio Quinn – Dreams, A Luna Song (feat. JustKat) | Pop
We’ve got a dreamy track here about Princess Luna finding love; the only problem is that it’s only in the dream realm. Quinn once again teams up with JustKat to sing a love ballad. There are some very soft vocals with some soft rock guitar melodies that wrap themselves around the duo singing about the dreamers’ dream lives. The vocals tell the story of how this relationship developed over time as Luna kept showing up in this stallion’s dreams and those butterflies then started to happen between them. The story is pretty tender and sweet but also problematic due to circumstances that are out of their control, so their love only happens in their dreams. But knowing Princess Luna, she will find this stallion, and friendship and romance will win in the end. As always, this Qilin asks you to judge for yourself.
[P@D] StealingShad3z – Living The Life | Pop Punk
In the wake of Pony Life finally seeing a wider release on Discovery Family at long last, it should be no surprise that our fandom’s musicians are looking to it for inspiration. Exhibit A is Living The Life by StealingShad3z, a jumpy pop punk track from Ponies at Dawn: Eclipse. Shad3z sings about the feeling of enjoying life at its simplest: hanging with friends and living in the moment, even featuring some little moments showing off his mastery at guitar and bass. If Dookie-era Green Day wrote about ponies, this would be what they’d sound like. Shad3z impresses once again!
Chasing Dawn – Of You | Pop
This is such a powerful display of the vocal talent of one Chasing Dawn. This Brit has a great voice and this track about how people can change is a wonderful display of vocally being able to invoke that emotion! The melodies are soft and dreamy, the lyrics are pretty emotional telling just sometimes people can change due to life or whatnot, and it can be taken as a simulation of life experiences, good or bad. You may love this person. They may be a trusted friend and things just happen beyond your control. It’s a pretty lovely and meaningful track and a real treat by Chasing Dawn. I can’t help but think about how much easier it is to find these feelings in the world of Equestria and how we can learn from that. As always, this Qilin asks you to judge for yourself.
Daniel Ingram – The Magic of Friendship Grows (loophoof & R3CTIFIER Remix) | Electropop
Today we’ve got ourselves something special, everypony! For the tenth anniversary of Friendship is Magic loophoof and R3CTIFIER made a stunning remix of the final show song, “The Magic of Friendship Grows”, but before I venture into complete fanboying territory let’s get to the bottom of this amazing track. The song starts out with Twilight’s first lines and a simple, slower beat, but don’t let that deceive you! This is not a slow song by any means, and the beat quickly starts building up signalling an incoming chorus; then, after a single note, the drop happens. The drop is an explosion of awesome sound, and the combination of amazing lyrics and fantastic beat is sure to make you jump up and dance. The calmer beat returns for Pinkie’s part before ticking up again as Rainbow takes over, building up again and again to that one specific note and another drop. The amazing chorus takes over again, this time while we are shown scenes from the School of Friendship, and if you didn’t dance before I guarantee you will now. Applejack’s lyrics are accompanied by the calmer beat and a soothing melody as we are given some breathing space, which continues through Rarity’s part, but the tone shifts as Fluttershy sings, and we build up again. This time we don’t hear the single note and get an even better drop with an even more upbeat beat as we see all of the secondary characters that we all love. And then the ending. The ending is just…wow. For the ending loophoof and R3CTIFIER recreated the original melody with a tear jerking synth that really gives this song a worthy conclusion as we see the Mane 6 for one last time and close the book on Friendship is Magic.
