This right here is a genre that needs to be shown off in the fandom more often! This 100% good ol’ fashion techno. It goes right into the theme of Equinity 3. The awesome melody embodies the mascot of the label trying to make a great escape from a grand heist. The beats and effects really push the tempo on the drama of this story. Each of the effects, like the use of the keyboard notes, the rumbling and rolling pace and even the harmonies used as well are nice. The pounding bass with the grindy buzz sounds like an alarm system going off and she has to swiftly leave before she is trapped. Oh, and a nice little easter egg at the end there as well. Techno still is one of the best genres of electronic music and needs to be used so much more in my opinion. As always, this Qilin asks you to judge for yourself.
Original
[Equinity] Single Purpose – Blue Coated Smug Horse VIP | Glitch-Hop
So how do you make a track better when it was already featured on P@D: Skyward? (You can listen to that track here). I’d say this is upping the game here.
So… If you like a track about how annoying Trixie is, then here you go, fans of Trixie. As said by my colleague Canatime in our in Equinity 3 album review, the track is full of elements that really highlight Trixie’s personality traits, being that they are annoying and cute at the same time. As said by him, a delightful reese bass sound, incredibly mixed drums, a smooth lead and even cheeky vocal chop all highlight Trixie’s character in a well composed package. Single Purpose sure has a winner here. As always, this Qilin asks you to judge for yourself.
[Equinity] Budzy – Throwback | Dubstep
Today we have got ourselves another great song from the Equinity 3: Breach album. Budzy brings us a Dubstep track modeled after his older releases. The track starts out how you expecte a clubsong to start out: with happy uptune beats, but as soon as the beat picks up you know this isn´t your run-off-the-mill club song, the massive beat is sure to blow you off your feet and the beat from the beginning get´s repeated in different versions through out the song and is sure to make you smile. Lovers and haters of Dupstep alike I can promise a exceptional experience with this stellar track.
MirroredReality – Woodland Spirits | Chillout
Today we have a charming song from MirroredReality, this song is focused around White Tail Woods and the notion of a rainy day. MirroredReality split this song in two halves, the first one centers around a rainy day and sounds like it with various small noises, including of course rain, accompanied by a beat and every now and again a bird, the second half focuses on what comes after the rain and is much cleaner and has a more upbeat tune to it and includes more birds. A great song to just chill for some time and don’t think about anything else than you lying in a forest, it’s like the imagination thing your RE teacher made you do only with the difference that this one actually does what it’s supposed to do.
SDreamExplorerS – Vandroŭnickaja (feat. Koron Korak & Pavel Lipski) | Folk Metal
This time we got ourselves something special everypony! SDreamExplorerS brings us a folk metal song in Belarusian language and with the help of Koron and Pavel he put together an epic 5 minute track. The lyrics are fully in Belarusian which you think may make it lose some of the flair if you don’t understand the language, while that may be true a bit I also don’t speak nor understand Belarusian but either way I like this song. The combination of guitar violin, Belarusian and the bits of narration by Pavel Lipski gives this whole thing a very epic feeling.
Lukas Vokrinek – Tranquil Evenings | Ambient
Lukas Vokrinek brings us this amazing Ambient song that puts you at ease as soon as you put it on. Had a stressful day at work or was your teacher unbearable again? We all know we have those days where we want nothing more than just lean back and maybe just take a nap for some time, Lukas brings us the perfect song for exactly that, the calming piano accompanied by a lot of sounds you hear in the forest in the evening make this the perfect song to just lean back, close your eyes and think of nothing other than the forest and its critters for a few minutes.
Toby Macaroni – Wiscoltsin Marewaukee | Alternate Electronic
TM has a history of making rather interesting music, and this track is no exception. In fact, its one of those songs that you can’t help but have a goofy grin on the entire way through. Or, at least I couldn’t. Wiscoltsin Marewaukee is a lighthearted and fun listen throughout, and the lively saxophone probably has a lot to do with that. Bouncy and smooth jazzy? Sign me up. The tune begins a little more tame, giving the saxophone an opening spotlight. Shortly, it transitions into the real meat of the beat; keeping up the positive, fun-loving vibe throughout. I love darker themes as much as the next guy, but sometimes a bubbly melody like we have here is just the thing I didn’t know I needed. A well deserved member of the replay club.
[Equinity] Suskii – Crystal | Metalstep
Track 2 from Equinity 03: Breach is Crystal, a unique contribution from Suskii! Beginning with a deep electronic riff with a sample of Celestia speaking about Sombra, a quick build up is telegraphed by her saying “now go!”, before building up to an insanely heavy dubstep drop with powerful punchy drums and intense synth sounds. We’re given a small break with a deep synth melody before the second half kicks in… A light synth sound makes up the bulk of this section before we’re treated to the sound of Suskii’s vocals, which are harmonius and filled with emotional. Right after is a sudden change of pace with the addition of heavy drums, distorted guitars and screaming. This metal/dubstep fusion showcases a lot of his musical chops while being a welcome fit on the compilation. And this is only the beginning!
RottenTotten – End of the World | Synthwave / Hybrid Orchestral
RottenTotten generates some really great emotion and atmosphere with this synth-driven piece! Produced as the first song from a project that was lost for a time, there is a strong, epic narrative thread throughout. It’s easy to picture this song backing a protracted adventure and struggle. Along with “Song of the Sea” and “Goldenblood“, this song represents some really great development in RottenTotten’s music! It’s great that this music was not lost and that the project is underway. It will be fantastic to follow this album as it is released and see the full story as it unfolds!
Studio Quinn – Alone (feat. JustKat and Koron Korak) | Orchestral Rock
Oh, the wonders of making music based on the fandom’s headcanons… Now, just to be clear, it’s long been said that Twilight will not outlive her friends. That has not been changed or been confirmed by Big Jim Miller.
However! That doesn’t mean that wonderful music can be made from it, like this track! There are many pretty yet somber aspects to the composition of this track by Quinn. The vibe of the melody goes with the thumbnail artwork and the orchestra elements are wonderful. You really feel for Twilight as the bittersweet vocals of JustKat tells that story to really sell it. You have the fantastic violin from the one and only maestro Koron Korak to further those feels. It’s a very unsettling feeling for the new ruler of Equestria. Poor Twilight… As always, this Qilin asks you to judge for yourself.
