Brilliant Venture – Twilight Vs. Tirek | Dubstep

SWEET CELESTIA, this feels nostalgic. I’m a huge, huge fan of the older pony music scene. What some artists consider “old” or “cringy” I consider “lovely” and “heartwarming”. Brilliant Venture captures that feel again in a track that left me breathless, teary-eyed, and grinning. With pony samples galore, vocal chopping left and right, wubs, and all the old EDM cliches, this is a trip to the past with modern production standards. A truly fantastic production, one that has that most difficult of properties to add – soul.

Crystarium – Saddle Arabia | Ethnic Drumstep

After almost a month, Crystarium is warming back up with this drumstep track infused with ethnic vibes and topped with his signature sound design. Prepare to be blown back by heavy bass accented by a beautiful Afghani Rabab sure to leave you with a taste as fine as Karkadeh in your mouth. Check out his future releases, including a collaboration with a certain someone, on the next Ponies at Dawn album dropping on the 23rd!

Filly in the Box – Neurological Pony Disorder | Dubstep

The first thing I thought when I started listened to this was “Whoa, what a groovy beat!” The second was “these are some really, really good sounds!” With innovative synths, lovely growls, and downright unbelievable vocal chopping, Filly in the Box delivers a real gem. It reminds me of the older kind of dubstep, the pre-brostep kind, back when it was just an underground British genre. It pairs that older dubstep with some almost IDM-like elements added for a truly delicious mix. Vinyl would be proud.

[P@D] DJT & Xavi – Royalty | Future House

WE GOT A DOUBLE WHAMMY HERE IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. Not only does this mark the first pre-release of the upcoming Ponies At Dawn: Guardians album (to be released 23rd June with the usual release party), but I can finally say that Cider Party is back again! After a reshuffle in management, our Makenshi has taken the reigns as the new barkeep.

And then this collab is something I didn’t see coming at all. While Xavi is definitely already known for great future house, collaborating with DJT only makes it better. The resulting track is packed full of great sound design, with excellent percussion to supplement the drums and just a hint of vocal chops, the sprinkles on the cupcake of hors haus.

I’m off to prepare for P@D and think of more bad metaphors.

Synthis – Just Hang On | Synthpop

Synthis delivers another stunning piece of synthpop. His vocals are emotional and moving. The production is top-tier, with the gentle synths and the soft wubs perfectly complimenting his singing. The lyrics, too, are some of the most uplifting I’ve heard in months. All in all, a wonderful track from a wonderful musician.

Totalspark – Downstairs | Jazz / Glitch Hop

This innovative track pairs glitch hop with jazz in a groovy, swingy and absolutely superb way. The hoofstep intro leads into a well-produced and very fun track. The beeps, growls, and bzzts are organized like a classic jazz piece, and the saxophone-esque synth halfway really drives the point home. Anyone who likes either glitch hop or jazz should give this a listen – or 5!

RoomVR – Fading Night | Drumfunk

NB: This was originally posted on Drumscape Library on 12 June 2017.

It’s an absolute joy to see RoomVR back on Drumscape Library! While his first feature had been a remix, he has now returned, half a year later, to delight the fandom with a fully original drumfunk track.

And truly, this time has not passed in vain. Taking months to hone his craft further while retaining his style, VR offers an atmospheric experience that pulls you into the magical world of Equestria’s nighttime just before the dawn. A sweet rolling waterfall of amen breaks guides you through an orchestral landscape, and well placed foley deepens the immersion. Fading Night invites you to close your eyes and feel the breath of the night, cool and fragrant and serene.

Modern Bard – Blue Angel | Industrial Trance

Musical experiments like these are always so great to see! Borrowing elements from Industrial music, Modern Bard delivers Blue Angel, a Trance-empowered track of much beauty. Encompassing the power of the Night and her winged harbinger, the track takes us through a heavy exploration of Trance and metallic sounds, not without a magnificent break where echo-y piano and choruses are giving to our beloved Princess of the Night the tribute she deserves.

This remix by underground expert BassPon3 breathes new life into a fandom classic. The catchy, simple synth leads into a brilliant repurposing of Discord’s vocals. Throughout the song, fast, almost chiptune-like effects keep us interested. Of special note are the haunting melodies that evoke vistas of chocolate rain and cotton candy clouds. Some top-quality hardcore for you to enjoy!

APPL3JVCK – WAMMI | Trap

Don’t let your kids listen to this track, cause they could get inspired by Flurry Heart and become a WAMMI! Following DWK’s antics, APPL3JVCK turned the WAMMI concept into as Trap tune that’s as dark as it can get, with a delightful progression and an atmosphere that seems to call for an ascent to madness. This is a side of the pony music scene that I affectionate a lot, and I can’t thank APPL3JVCK enough for this initiative!
