Kimiko Glenn – Fit Right In (Yellow Tune Remix) | Synthwave

This is a really original take on this track. The synthwave delivery creates a much different emotional dynamic than the silly, fun energy of the movie version. The dreamy, ambient synth opening has a cool retro vibe, and the energy gets boosted by the introduction of percussion and vocals. The vocals are slowed down just a touch to fit the tempo, and the song then works to create melodies that compliment them while offsetting their original energy as we fly over the synth landscapes. I really like the bass heading into the chorus, which adds a satisfying thump, and the bits of effects accents sprinkled throughout the track add a nice depth. The chorus synth melody keeps the vintage vibe going, and a picture of the movie characters in leg warmers and headbands would fit the package perfectly. It’s an interesting and well-done remix, and I hope that you share my enjoyment of this creative approach!

Daniel Ingram – What More Is Out There (Pagan Pegasus Remix) | Future Bass

I’m always happy when a Daniel Ingram song gets remix love, so I am delighted to be able to introduce you to this tune! Pagan Pegasus has taken the original’s pensive acoustic arrangement and given it an awesome twist. Shifting the song to a lower key, pitching down the vocals, replacing the gentle acoustic guitar lead with an electric guitar, and backing it with an electric bass gives the song a killer alternative vibe. The future bass arrangement then joins in, and we’re merrily on our way through the first verse. But why make future bass if you’re not going to throw in a sick drop? Exactly. The drop is indeed of the sickness, flowing nicely from the build up, but my favorite part is what I’m going to call the “poneiano” synth that percolates to the fore of the arrangement in the build up and then takes center stage in the drop (backed by tasty bass). It’s like that kid’s cat piano toy that “meows” all the notes, but beefed up and matched to the remix vocals (and obviously not meowing… Okay, you know you’d buy a piano that was Twilight’s head with keys for teeth. I cannot be alone on this). Also, the background art is fantastic and was drawn by the artist themself! Much love for that and for this fantastic musical effort!

Vanessa Hudgens – Gonna Be My Day (Enermatrix Remix) | Hooves Up

Enermatrix has taken a whack at this highlight track from the G5 movie, and the result is awesome! The opening synth keys, pulsing beat, and nicely balanced kicks get the party started off right, and then things really take off as the additional synth track joins in and adds a high energy depth heading into the drop. Also, the percussion distorts, pitches up, and then pitches down going into the drop with this cool effect that sounds a bit like an electronic device running out of battery. Never fear, though, because the drop is surging with positive energy, and that energy level stays pumped up through the next verse. When it drops off, it gets some support from some fun chops and effects, and then really builds during the bridge, continuing a really unique progression through the song. The decision to replace the really high vocal run at the end of the bridge with a drop keeps the song delivery even and consistent without sacrificing the energy that’s been built up. It’s a wonderful and original remix effort, and I hope you’ll join me in dancing (flailing) along!

WoodenToaster – Rainbow Factory (Pagan Pegasus Remix) | Dubstep

Pagan Pegasus, a relative newcomer to the music fandom, takes on a classic with this fantastic remix! The music box opening paired with background strings is a delightful choice for the subject matter, and the treatment of the vocals blends them perfectly into the dubstep arrangement. The bass is a real standout here, and the rhythmic thumps (especially in the verses) both give the impression of the rainbow factory’s machinery hard at work and acknowledge the grim reality of that machinery’s purpose. By the time the music drifts to a close you may just be glad that you weren’t born with wings.

Vanessa Hudgens – Gonna Be My Day (Koron Korak Remix) | Electro House

And now for something a bit different! For this remix Koron Korak recreates the original melody and then offsets it from the vocals, creating what sounds like a conversation between the singer and the arrangement. The arrangement itself has a really cool vibe to it that channels the warm, summery feeling of the background art. The chorus pumps up the arrangement and introduces a jazzy saxophone melody, an unexpected but awesome choice. It’s definitely the instrumental that drives this song, and the vocals, though left largely unaltered, function more like another instrument. The bridge adds a great chippy synth that soars along with the vocals before the saxophone takes over at the end and steals the show. This is a thorough, thoughtful exploration and reimagining of the original, and the effort is very much appreciated.

Vanessa Hudgens – Gonna Be My Day (Seventh Element Remix) | Drum & Bass

It’s always interesting hearing everyone’s approach to these remixes. Seventh Element takes the original and pushes up the tempo, creating a greater sense of urgency. The opening keys combine with new synths, percussion, and effects to create a reverby, bubbly beginning, and then the strings kick in as the song builds into the chorus. The arrangement feels like it’s winding up for a big emotional punch, but instead we get a bubbly, peppy chorus that bounces merrily along. It’s a great combination, and the song flows along really nicely with some fun tweaks after the bridge that give it this great, chippy vibe without getting crunchy. It all makes for a lively pick-me-up of the tune that keeps the positive vibes of the original while doing its own thing.

Aventrix Fixes Assertive Fluttershy Fixes ArtAttack – Still Shy VIP (feat. Metajoker) | Drum & Bass

First ArtAttack created this terrific song with the goal of capturing Fluttershy’s capability for being both gently nurturing and forcefully protective. Then the Original VIP updated the arrangement and added Metajoker vocals to make the song that much more epic and impactful. Then Assertive Fluttershy created their Fix that reworked the song to create a UK Hardcore version for My Little Remix War V. Now Aventrix has created their own version that takes the hardcore mix and polishes it up. The tempo, key, and EQ have been adjusted, and new synths, drums, and FX create a super clean sound. You’d never know that this track was made on a phone using audio from YouTube. It sounds great, it’s a wonderful link to horse music history, and there’s a higher quality free download link in the description that I would recommend for full audio goodness. Get in there and create some new nostalgia!

Kimiko Glenn – Fit Right In (NYMUND9 Remix) | Electro

Today I bring you yet another awesome remix of the G5 movie song “Fit Right in”, this time courtesy of NYMUND9! The track starts out with a fun Electro melody accompanied by muffled vocals from our favorite unicorn herself. Normally the vocals would slowly start to fade in more, but NYMUND9 does things differently, and in a fun bit of variety the vocals suddenly fully set in, and we go full into the song. As the song goes on the melody slowly builds up with more synths and some fun clapping until it changes slightly for Hitch and Sunny’s part. After a bit the melody builds up and we get sort of a semi drop in mainly a change of melody, again something not a lot of tracks do but something that is definitely very enjoyable! After a bit, we get into a clapping build up that once again doesn’t lead to what you would expect but instead leads into a short part where the vocals are muffled again before once again going full send into very fun electro melodies before we end this song just like a unicorn would!

Daniel Ingram – We’ll Make Our Mark (Snow Swirl Remix) | Drum & Bass

Who said that now that G5 has officially begun that we can’t have more fire remixes of G4 classics? Snow Swirl tackles a song a lot of people love from an episode that a lot of people really enjoyed, but before I get sappy about the past let’s take a look at this masterpiece! We start out with not too much beat, which is something that I always love to see, because the beat has time to build and doesn’t hit you like a freight train. As the beat grows, the vocals slowly break through and take center stage, and I don’t think I have to tell you how great the lyrics are. Soon we get into our first build up, and here is where the DnB elements start to shine. Then we get to the drop, and the drop is a wonderful love letter to all things DnB and an absolute pleasure for your ears. A bit into the drop we also get some vocal chops that fit the arrangement really well. After the drop we get to Rainbow’s part of the song, accompanied mostly by a stupendous acoustic guitar melody, and then, continuing with that same melody, we get to Rarity’s part. Afterwards we get this stunning string melody that you’d expect to hear in an orchestral piece. Then, in a moment that completely surprised me, the strings combine with the beat and the vocals to create this uplifting, inspirational part that goes straight into the drop in a wonderful display of Snow Swirl’s musical skill. The drop once again works with vocal chops, but this time around the focus lies more on the upbeat DnB melody. We end on a combination of the drop and the lovely acoustic guitar.

Ken Ashcorp – 20 Percent Cooler (OnlyJustCrazy Remix) | Electro

Well, I certainly didn’t expect this oldschool track to get another remix, but it’s definitely a welcome surprise! OnlyJustCrazy gives this song their very own touch, and the final product is just fantastic! The remix starts out quickly and doesn’t wait long to drop us straight into the vocals, and the early beat is a calmer one that supports the vocals really well. The instrumental builds up bit by bit as the vocals subside for a moment and then come straight back in. After that the beat and melody disappear for a short while only to come back even better! What I also want to mention is that the song uses a bunch of fake build ups that don’t actually lead to drops and give the whole song a really nice feel! We end this fun ride with the entire song slowly fading out.
